Royal Enfield recently teamed up with Knox, a UK-based company that specialises in the design and manufacturing of motorcycle armour, to produce its own range of motorcycle gear. This includes a new range of jackets, gloves, and knee armour. We'll be sampling a couple of them over the course of the next few months to give you an idea of the safety, quality and longevity of these products.
Explorer V3: Rs 8,950
Colours available: Black and Grey
The Explorer V3 is part of Royal Enfield’s textile jacket range which incorporates small mesh panels at the chest, arms and back for better ventilation. It features Knox CE level two armours at impact zones in the elbows and shoulders. The back, however, gets a basic back protector. So you will have to swap that out for a CE level protector eventually.
First impressions--the jacket looks quite nice in this shade of grey with red highlights on the adjustment tabs. It feels rather light compared to a couple of other jackets I’ve owned in this price range. However, the others do come with a CE level 2 back protector as standard, which adds to the weight. Overall, the quality and use of materials is quite impressive and the jacket feels like it’s designed to last.
Feature-wise, the Explorer V3 comes with 5 pockets -- 2 front, 2 back and 1 pocket in the inside lining.
Besides this, you have the conventional trouser connection loop, reflective branding for better rider visibility in low light conditions and YKK zippers. Royal Enfield even includes a separate breathable-waterproof rain jacket and a detachable thermal liner along with the Explorer V3.
Vamos Gloves: Rs 4,200
Colours available: Black and Brown

Next up is the Vamos all-leather gloves in black. It’s designed with stretch panels on the wrist for comfort, and Knox knuckle and independent sliders on each side of the lower palm for better protection against a fall. The gloves are designed perfect for highway and city riding.

Conqueror Knee Armour: Rs 3,990
Some of you may not use external armours, but it’s nice to have the option just in case you don’t own a pair of riding pants yet. Or if you simply fancy some extra knee protection. The Conqueror’s outer shell is made from CE level 2 certified low-density polyethylene, which is flexible and lightweight yet strong. The inner lining, on the other hand, consists of soft EVA foam and Knox micro lock sheet. As for the overall design, it is pretty simple and straightforward.
We will be testing these riding gear from Royal Enfield extensively over the next couple of months once the lockdown is lifted and things go back to normal. If you have any questions, do let us know in the comments.
