Snow-covered regions, vast deserts and long coastlines… India has a lot to explore. But finding the right gear to do so could be difficult, and that’s what Rynox is aiming to change with its Stealth Evo 3 line of riding gear. I tested the Rynox Stealth Evo 3 Jacket in various climatic conditions over the course of six months to see if this is the do-it-all jacket you need:
Jacket Name: Rynox Stealth Evo 3
Size: L
Price: Rs 12,750
Colours: Black, Grey
Material - Abrasion resistant 600D PU coated polyester, Invista Cordura® panels at shoulders and elbows
Armour - Knox Microlock CE Level 2 for shoulder, elbow and back | Knox Microlock CE Level 1 for chest
Fit - Dualsport ADV Touring Fit
Adjustable straps - waist, arms and cuffs
Pockets - 2 side pockets + 1 back pocket + 1 waterproof stash pocket + 2 fleece-lined hand warmer pockets
Pros: Heavily ventilated; Removable ventilated lumbar support belt is a smart move
Cons: Heavy with all the armour; could have used more waterproof pockets
One glance at the Rynox Stealth Evo 3 jacket and it comes across as any other touring jacket – bulky and with a bunch of pockets. But the jacket is cleverly designed to take you through any and every climatic conditions. Riding in the summer? There are ventilation zippers on the sleeves, chest, underarms and back, along with two flaps on the shoulders.
The ventilation zones have a bright fluoro orange mesh that ensures that you aren’t unnoticed on the road. And adding to that is the reflective tapes on the chest, sleeves and the back. There are ‘Rynox’ badges on all sides, but they are subtle and don’t look out of place.
I usually wear ‘L’ size, but the fitting of the Rynox Stealth Evo 3 jacket felt far better than the previous jackets I have owned. And that’s down to the adjustment loops on the sleeves and the waist. Furthermore, with the removable ventilated lumbar support belt, the jacket doesn’t move up if I am riding a supersport or when I rode ZigGarage’s customised Royal Enfield Continental GT 650.
But with all the armour, the jacket is quite heavy. But the Knox armour, though thick, is on the softer side, so it doesn’t feel uncomfortable, even when you wear it all day long. In fact, despite its heft, it has become my everyday jacket.
As an everyday jacket, this might not be the best option for you, but for someone who intends to munch miles, you can’t go wrong with this jacket. My first-ever ride in the Rynox Stealth Evo 3 jacket was to Khardung La from Leh, and right from the get-go, the jacket felt right for the job. From the harsh heat of the sun to the untimely snowfall and rain, it took it all. In fact, Rynox’s DryCore waterproof pocket kept my phone completely dry.
Now, even in the sweltering Mumbai heat, the jacket does its job well. As long as you are in motion, you’ll be fine, but the moment you stop at a signal or get caught in the traffic, it starts getting really hot in the jacket. But thanks to the vents, it doesn’t take long to get you cooled down.
The upper layer on the front that covers the main zipper could have had a cut in the middle so that the top half could be kept open for more breathability during summers. Apart from this, my only qualm is having another waterproof pocket. The one that this jacket has is good for just your phone, but if you intend to keep your wallet or documents too, it would be difficult. Having another waterproof pocket inside would have helped.
The Rynox Stealth Evo 3 Jacket is priced at Rs 12,750 which makes it fairly affordable. This jacket can handle all sorts of climatic conditions and is super comfortable too. So, if you are someone who’s looking to tour extensively, the Rynox Stealth Evo 3 is a great option. But, do note that the company sells the winter and rain layer separately, so that's going to add to the cost. And if you are wondering how good are Rynox’s Stealth Evo 3 pants, our review drops soon. So, stay tuned.
