With Ravi getting the TVS Apache RTR 180 from Vikrant, I finally got my first long termer after joining ZigWheels. Although a scooter isn’t the most glamorous of option for a long termer, I was more than happy while receiving the key of the TVS Scooty Zest. My daily commute to office isn’t as taxing or as lengthy as my other colleagues but living in Central part of Mumbai, I face the chaotic traffic.
This is where the TVS Scooty Zest shines, as the nimble handling dynamics of it means that I can easily make my through bumper-to-bumper traffic of Mumbai. Also the fact that one doesn’t have to constantly shift gears akin to a motorcycle has turned my daily commute into a much pleasant journey. Its petite dimensions might fool many into thinking that the TVS Scooty Zest will be dull to ride; well it’s actually quite the opposite.
The TVS Scooty Zest is powered by the same 110cc motor as seen on the TVS Jupiter; this with its 98kg weight makes it a hoot to ride in the city with its peppy acceleration. Another highlight of the TVS Scooty Zest is its large 19 litre under seat storage that gobbles up my full-face helmet without effort. The scooter features an eco-mode indicator which I feel is really beneficial in extracting the best mileage from the scooter. Talking about fuel efficiency the TVS Scooty Zest returned an overall figure of 46kmpl.
Coming to grievances, the Scooty Zest has started emitting an annoying squeaky noise when ridden with a pillion. Also I personally didn’t like the design of the speedometer as it’s not easy to read on the go, especially while riding at night. The missing trip meter means one has to keep a log of the kilometres ridden while fuelling up the scooter every time to calculate fuel efficiency. But the above are minor niggles on what has been a great journey with the TVS Scooty Zest so far.
Date Acquired: October 2014
Total km: 1,514km
Overall fuel efficiency: 46kmpl (As Tested)
Cheers: Peppy motor, Underseat storage
Sneers: Missing tripmeter, Squeaky noise from rear suspension
