The workhorse has completed 4,500km and we bring forward its report card
The TVS Star has completed six months in the ZigWheels garage and has breezed past the 4,500km mark with relative ease. Although the TVS Star City+ isn’t glamorous as the other set of two-wheels in the Zig fleet, I must say it does the basics precisely. The point of a commuter is to take you from point A to B with relative ease and that the Star City+ does with aplomb. The comfortable riding position alongwith the appropriately cushioned seats mean that spending time on the saddle isn’t a taxing affair.
Also, the lively handling characteristic of the TVS Star City+ means that you can thread your way past even through the miniscule of gaps, a trait which is of utmost important while riding through the traffic clogged streets of Mumbai. During monsoons, I used to give the Honda Activa 125 preference over the Star City+ but on the few occasions I ventured out on the motorcycle it really impressed me. The suspension is softly sprung which meant riding over the lunar surface like roads of Mumbai wasn’t a daunting task as the Star City+ handled them with relative ease.
In my previous long term report, I had mentioned cold starting problems on the Star City+ but a visit to the service centre meant that problem was rectified promptly. Coming to the nags, the engine has started emitting some harsh vibrations from the crank area and a visit to the service centre is on the cards. Another irksome problem on the TVS Star City+ is that the speedometer stops functioning for a brief period of time before restarting on its own, I guess a loose wire is a culprit.
Fuel efficiency remains a concern for the TVS Star City+ as it is returning us a mileage figure of 54kmpl overall. Although fuel efficiency is on the lower side, I must admit that 80 per cent of my riding is with the throttle pinned open. Despite the minor niggles the journey so far with the TVS Star City+ has been a pleasant one so far and we hope it remains so.
