1.) Engine: Although the Hyundai Creta i the newest member in the compact SUV segment, the engine options that it comes with aren’t exactly new. The Hyundai Creta will be launched with one petrol and two diesel engine options. The Creta petrol will come with the same 1.6-litre powerplant as the Verna and in this state of tune it makes 123PS and 155Nm. In diesel the Creta will be offered with a 1.4-litre unit and a 1.6-litre engine from the Eilite i20 and the Verna respectively. The 1.4-litre Creta makes 90PS and 220Nm while the 1.6-litre oil burner is the most powerful making 128PS and 259Nm.
The Ford EcoSport too gets a wide range of engine options. But unlike the Creta, the EcoSport has two petrol engines and one diesel on offer. The EcoSport comes with a 1.5-litre gasoline unit which makes 109 horses and makes 140Nm of torque. Ford also has the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that makes 125PS of power and 170Nm of torque. In diesel, the EcoSport gets the same 1.5-litre engine as the Fiesta. And in this state of tune it makes 90PS and 204Nm.
The Nissan Terrano gets a 1.6-litre petrol unit but is on sale in just the mid-spec XL variant. In this state of tune it makes 103PS and 145Nm. There is more to choose from if you are looking out for a diesel. For those looking for a more efficient unit can opt for the 1.5-litre 85PS diesel while there is also an 110PS option with the same engine. In both these states of tune, Terrano makes 200Nm and 248Nm of torque respectively.
2.) Features: In terms of features the higher variants of all three cars come with the basic Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity, ABS, leather wrapped steering wheel electronically adjustable ORVMs and more. The Ford EcoSport and the Hyundai Creta come with 6 air bags while the Nissan Terrano comes with just front two. Both the EcoSport as well as the Terrano don’t get a touch-screen infotainment system. The Creta on the other hand gets a 7-inch touch screen. The Terrano and the EcoSport come with parking sensors but miss out on the reversing camera. The top-end variants of all three cars come with leather upholstery.
3.) Fuel Efficiency: For the petrol EcoSport with the 1.5-litre engine, Ford claims an efficiency of 15.8kmpl while the smaller EcoBoost gets an ARAI claimed figure of 18.9kmpl. The diesel EcoSport boasts of an efficiency of 22.7kmpl. The Terrano petrol on the other hand returns 13.2kmpl while the two diesel units return 20.5kmpl and 19.1kmpl for the 85PS and the 110PS variant respectively.
Hyundai though hasn’t revealed the Creta’s efficiency figures as yet but we expect about 21kmpl from the 1.6 diesel, 20kmpl from the 1.4 oil burner while the petrol should return about 15kmpl.
4.) Price: The Nissan Terrano ranges from Rs 10.14 lakh and goes right up to Rs 12.92 lakh for the top-end THP Premium trim. The Ford EcoSport gets excise duty benefits since it is sub-4 metre and starts at Rs 6.75 lakh. The top-end diesel trim of the EcoSport goes right up to Rs 10.20 lakh. Hyundai will launch the Creta tomorrow, but the tentative prices of the car are already been out.
