River Indie
Pros and Cons of Indie
- Lots of storage space
- Torquey enough even in Eco mode
- Suspension tuned to handle heavy loads
- Funky and likeable design
- Display quality could’ve been better
- Suspension is on the firmer side with just the rider’s weight
- Throttle calibration in Rush mode could’ve been smoother
The River Indie gets all the basics right for a premium, practical, funky electric scooter. Its torquey motor also helps it tackle hilly roads. That said, the Indie is only available in Bengaluru for now, with phase-wise expansion planned in the near future. We hope River manages to expand rapidly, all the while ensuring there’s no bottleneck between demand and supply.

Indie Key Highlights
Price: The River Indie is available in one variant only and is priced at Rs 1,42,999 (ex-showroom Bangalore). It is available in 5 eye-catching colourways: Summer Red, Monsoon Blue, Spring Yellow, Winter White and Storm Grey.
Design: The Indie’s styling is quirky and resembles the Yamaha Neo’s. Its LED headlight with the LED DRL looks cool and the scooter has an overall rugged look. The crash guards on the front and the side panels, along with the chunky single-piece grab rail accentuate the sturdy look.
Features: In typical EV fashion, the Indie has quite some features to talk about too. It has three riding modes- Eco, Ride and Rush, all of which can be used through its six-inch LCD instrument console. Bits like two charging ports and a reverse parking assist feature add to the convenience. Its underseat storage is at a market-leading 43-litre, along with a 12-litre lockable front glove box. You can get yourself pannier stays, accessory mounts, bag hooks, top box and more.
Motor: At the heart of the scooter is a 6.7kW, 26Nm (both peak) motor linked to a belt final drive. The company claims a top speed of 90kmph. Underpinnings include a telescopic fork and twin shocks.
Rivals: The River Indie goes up against the likes of the Ather Rizta, TVS iQube Electric, Hero Vida V1 and the Ola S1 Pro. Price alternatives for the River Indie include the Hero XPulse 200T 4V, Yamaha FZS-FI, and the Hero Xtreme 200S.
Range: The e-scoot offers a claimed real world range of 120km from its 4kWh battery pack. Charging the battery from 0-80 percent will take about five hours using a standard charger.

Riding the Electric Wave with River Indie
Exploring the River Indie for the past six months has been mostly exhilarating. This electric scooter’s clean design and robust features instantly caught my attention. It is equipped with a 4 kWh battery that promises a range of up to 120 km, suitable for most of my local travels. The ride quality is smooth all thanks to its good suspension setup and ample seat space. However, at speeds over 70 km/h stability begins to falter, which can be nerve wracking on busy highways. Another minor yet noticeable aspect is the noise from the motor at higher speeds, it is not overly loud but unexpected for an EV.

Unique design different from others
The River Indie is a stylish and practical electric scooter designed for comfortable city commutes. The River Indie has a claimed top speed of around 90 kmph, making it suitable for navigating city streets . While not a speed demon, it provides decent pick-up for riding . It might start around Rs 1 lakh. The well-padded seat and upright riding position ensure a comfortable ride for rider and pillion, even on longer commutes. Generally It offers a good claimed range, decent performance, and helpful features

Stylish and useful scooter
The design of the River Indie electric scooter is appealing, and its suspension system can handle heavy loads. Its torque is good in the eco mode, but it is not available everywhere and the display quality could be better. Though its service reach is limited, this new electric scooter with a great design and Bengluru base has a good driving range and top speed. The River Indie is an incredibly stylish and useful electric scooter with a spacious storage capacity and it also has an amazing feature list.
