Volkswagen Polo-based SUV rendering

European media is abuzz with what is claimed to be a rendering image of the new Volkswagen compact SUV based on the popular Volkswagen Polo hatchback. This seems to be in line with ZigWheels’ conversation with VW board member, Dr Heinz-Jakob Neusser, in October last year who had said that it is necessary for Volkswagen to have one SUV in each segment. Neusser had revealed that the company will be introducing a compact SUV based on the Volkswagen Polo platform internationally. (Also Read: Volkswagen Compact SUV coming soon to India)

This move will help Volkswagen make its presence felt in the B-segment SUV market, where competition like Ford EcoSport, Renault Captur and Honda HR-V are dominating the segment. Currently, Volkswagen has the Touareg and the Tiguan SUV on offer and is said to be working on new SUV models based on the MQB platform, which could resemble the T-ROC concept shown by the company at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. In India, Volkswagen had unveiled the Taigun compact SUV, based on the Volkswagen Up! hatchback.

Volkswagen T-ROC concept

This speculative rendering of the Volkswagen Polo-based SUV seem to be a concoction of the existing Polo hatchback with some inspiration of the T-ROC. And might we add that the compact SUV looks interesting, at least in this picture. This could be the model which can also help Volkswagen India to capture the imagination of the SUV crazed Indian car buyers.
