Bajaj Freedom 125
Pros and Cons of Freedom 125
- It gets unique styling resembling a supermoto which makes it stand apart
- The engine is very refined and tractable for city commuting
- Can switch between petrol and CNG modes on the go
- We would have liked to see a larger fuel tank as its capacity is only 2 litres
- A seat height of 825mm makes it a tall motorcycle for shorter riders
- The braking setup could have been better
The Bajaj Freedom 125 is a motorcycle with a refined engine and offers comfortable ergonomics for city commuting. While this is a 125cc motorcycle, the performance is more on par with 110cc bikes. But, riders who opt for this CNG motorcycle will not have to worry about the expensive cost of petrol. The only thing that is left to be seen is how the CNG infrastructure is improved. That being said, Bajaj is working with CNG providers to make it more easily available.

Engine: The Bajaj Freedom 125 is powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 9.5PS and 9.7Nm and likely paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The CNG cylinder’s capacity is 2kg while the petrol tank’s capacity is 2 litres. It has a claimed range (CNG + petrol) range of 330km. The claimed mileage of Freedom 125 in CNG-only mode is 102km per kg while the claimed mileage petrol-only mode is 65kmpl. The CNG tank is placed horizontally underneath the seat. Bajaj has also made several impact and crash tests to ensure the CNG tank does not deform or lose pressure in case of an accident or a crash.
Suspension, Brakes & Other Details: The Bajaj Freedom 125 gets a trellis frame, making it the first bike in the segment to get one. The suspension setup consists of a telescopic fork with fork covers and a linked monoshock setup (seen for the first time in a 125cc bike in India). The NG04 Drum variant gets drum brakes at both ends while the other two variants get a front disc brake. CBS (Combined Braking System) is standard on all variants. The bike has a seat length of 785mm (the longest in the segment) and a kerb weight of 147kg (pretty heavy for a 125cc bike). The bike gets a 17-inch front and a 16-inch rear alloy wheel, wrapped with a 90-section tubeless tyre up front and 120-section at the rear, both from TVS Eurogrip.
Rivals: The Bajaj Freedom 125 doesn’t have a direct rival but competes against the Honda Shine 125, Hero Glamour, Bajaj Pulsar 125, Hero Xtreme 125R and TVS Raider 125.

4.2Recently had a test ride
Recently had a test ride on the Freedom 125. Wonderful experience. And although my ride was limited to city roads (with innumerable potholes and heavy1traffic), the ride felt good when considering that it's a 125cc bike. You cannot compare this bike to any other in segment bikes and it won't give you thepower of a1Pulsar 125 or Xtreme 125. However, this bike wasn't even meant to compare with those bikes. This is a commuter bike for the middle1class people with the desire to beat rising petrol costs. And the bike certainly delivers on that front. And1while locating a fuel station that Service CNG within the city is a challenge, it's not a dealbreaker,1especially considering the ability to ride the bike on reserve petrol until you find a fuel station with CNG.1And while others have mentioned the slight kickback when jumping between the 4th and the 5th gear, I din't1find it to be that pronouned. I'm not sure how it would be for longer rides, but I am excited to own one soon.1Lastly, the design and the colour palettes of this bike has gotten me pretty excited. So, it is definitely one1to check out if you are looking for a bike that won't break the bank.
