Features: The Mercedes S-Class packs features like a 12.8-inch MBUX infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, a Burmester 4D sound system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, four-zone climate control, 64-colour ambient lighting, and two wireless phone chargers. Passenger safety is taken care of by ten airbags, active parking assistance, a 360-degree camera, pedestrian protection, lane-keep assist, and tyre pressure monitoring. The sedan also gets lounge-like rear seats with individual screens, massage function, separate climate control zones, and ambient lighting. The rear seats also get a first-in-segment airbag placed on the back of the front seats to protect the occupants from head and neck injuries.

Engine: The Mercedes S-Class comes in two powertrain options: a 367PS/500Nm 3-litre petrol with 48V mild-hybrid tech and a 286PS/600Nm 3-litre diesel unit. Both are six-cylinder turbocharged units specced with a 9-speed automatic. The diesel engine comes paired with a rear-wheel drivetrain, while the petrol motor gets an all-wheel drivetrain. The 2021 S-Class is 5289mm long, 2109mm wide, 1503mm tall and has a 3216mm wheelbase.

Rivals: The Mercedes-Benz S-Class takes on the likes of the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8L.

Variants: Mercedes-Benz offers the locally assembled S-Class in two broad trims: S350d and S450. The luxury sedan comes in five colour options: Designo Diamond White Bright, Nautic Blue, Graphite Grey, Onyx Black and High Tech Silver.

Mercedes has issued a recall for 7,899 cars from the C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLE, GLS and V-Class model lines.

Earlier, Mercedes-Benz had revealed the AMG S 63 E Performance version of the S-class flagship sedan globally. The AMG badge comes packing cosmetic and mechanical revisions that make the luxury sedan look not just more aggressive but also pack enough power to complement the new looks. The twin-turbo, 4-litre V8 is now combined with an electric motor to produce 813PS and 1430Nm, which is good enough to power it from 0 to 100kmph in 3.3s. It could make its way to India after its launch in global markets next year.
