We haven't been reported any battery issue yet and if we talk about gears, shifts are extremely smooth and precise, with a light clutch action too in BMW G 310 GS. If you are able to manage long run for service, you can go for it.

I am using BMW 310GS which is one month old now and am facing the same issue. gears are tight and downshifting is loud. Louder than engaging 1st gear in a old model royal enfield.
