An underrated contender
- The Honda CB300R is a neo-retro styled naked motorcycle which does not make much power on the paper but there’s more than what meets the eye
- It is priced a bit on the higher side but has good finish levels
-
Oldschool meets new
- The bike grabs attention wherever it goes and is a rare sight
- It gets a modern neo-retro style with some old school touches here and there
- The fit and finish levels are quite good and are better than most of its competitors
- The motorcycle is quite compact in size and lacks the big bike feel for a 300cc motorcycle
-
Smooth… like a Honda
- The performance is pretty quick as it accelerates from 0-60kmph in just 2.94 seconds and does the 0-100kmph sprint in 7.34 seconds
- Pulls nicely from city speeds up to 130kmph
- Engine is smooth and refined which is what you expect from a Honda
- Efficiency is pretty good as well as it returned 39.84kmpl in the city and 37.92kmpl on the highway
- You do feel a tingle on the footpegs at around 6,000rpm
- A 10-litre fuel tank means you get a smaller range and frequent visits to the petrol station
- Outright performance is not quite good as its competitors
-
Turns on a dime!
- The CB300R is light on its feet and due to its short wheelbase and lightweight nature which allows it to handle the corners well
- The stiff suspension allows the bike to hold the line pretty well on highways and well as during cornering
- The tyres on the Honda could have been better and do not offer adequate grip for aggressive cornering
-
European in nature
- The stiff suspension feels settled on highway speeds
- The stiff suspension is pretty unsettling at slow speeds on Indian roads and the rear kicks back even at its softest preload setting
- The pillion seat is pretty small and will feel painful over longer distances
-
Feels at home
- The riding posture is pretty comfortable with an upright stance and rear-set footpegs which allows for spirited riding
- The compact nature and low seat height allows for shorter riders to easily maneuver the bike in the parking lot
- The motorcycle is pretty comfortable for a single rider but not for riding with a pillion
- The motorcycle is quite compact in size which will feel cramped for larger sized as well as taller riders
-
Does the job
- The full LCD screen has enough information and is easy to read while riding the motorcycle
- The LED lights offer good illumination on unlit roads
- The LCD console misses out on a gear-position indicator which is quite essential at this level
- No connectivity options whatsoever
-
Should you buy the Honda CB300R?
- The Honda CB300R gets a great neo-retro design and appeals more to the mature audience
- But if you want a more sporty and aggressive motorcycle, you would be better off with the KTM 250 Duke
- The trump card which the CB300R has is the reliability which comes with the Honda badge
