The Nissan X-Trail moniker makes a comeback after a decade and will be launched here as a fully imported model

Nissan India is all set to re-introduce the X-Trail moniker in India on August 1 after a decade! The full size premium SUV is set to be introduced in its fourth-generation avatar and will be brought here as a completely built unit (CBU). Bookings are underway and if you had your eyes on one, this report is for you, as here are 5 things you should know ahead of its launch.

Nissan X-Trail: Exterior Design

The Nissan X-Trail’s exterior design is premium and upmarket. Dominating the front-end is a V-shaped grille, flanked by a pair of funky-looking split LED headlights. In profile, the large 20-inch dual-tone alloys look premium and give this SUV with an upright silhouette a nice stance. Wrap around LED tail lamps at the rear-end round off the overall design.

Nissan X-Trail: Interior Design

Step inside the new Nissan X-Trail and you’ll be greeted by a rather minimalist dashboard, whose design is easy on the eye. Thankfully, you get large chunky physical knobs to control the infotainment and dual-zone climate control. The driver gets to grip on a chunky steering wheel and behind that is a digital driver’s display showing all the relevant information. The cabin also scores high on practicality.

But there are a few letdowns here such as the tiny 8-inch infotainment system and fabric upholstery, which are just not acceptable at this price point.

Nissan X-Trail: Features Onboard

The X-Trail gets the basics right here with a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof and cruise control. Safety is taken care of by seven airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and 360-degree camera.

That said, we wish Nissan could have loaded it up with more features such as powered front seats with ventilation, leather upholstery and ADAS. This would have rounded off the package, considering the price point this car is coming in.

Nissan X-Trail: Engine Option

The India-spec Nissan X-Trail gets just one engine option: a 163 PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine teamed with a 12v mild-hybrid tech. Drive is sent to the front wheels via a CVT. To know how the Nissan X-Trail drives, check out our in-depth first drive review

Nissan X-Trail: Expected Price And Rivals

The Nissan X-Trail, considering that it will be coming here as an import, won’t be cheap. We suspect prices to start from around Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in contention with the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster.
