Yamaha has finally launched the heavily updated R15 V4. The bikemaker has thrown in a ton of new goodies which include some never-seen-before bits too. And to help you know all about it, we’ve listed down the top 5 highlights for the bike:
What A Looker!
The R15’s big bike styling has always been one of its strongest suits. And it only gets better with the 2022 update, as the bike switches to a more modern and sportier design, taking inspiration from the YZF-R7.
You get a sleek fascia with LED DRLs and a bi-functional LED projector lamp tucked between the ram air intake. This is complemented by a new fairing design and a taller visor for better aerodynamics, and a gleaming golden USD fork.
The new R15 comes in four new colours: Metallic Red, Dark Knight, Racing Blue, and a MotoGP inspired Monster Energy livery. There’s also a new R15 M variant which comes in a Yamaha R1M inspired dual-tone silver/black shade.
Features, Features And Then Some More
The R15 V4 isn’t short on features either. You get an LED headlight, dual-channel ABS, a slip and assist clutch, USD forks, and a new LCD dash. The new console is a significant step up from the previous unit as it comes with smartphone connectivity via Yamaha’s Y-connect app, two display modes (track and street), and a lap timer. Apart from this, it also shows instantaneous fuel economy, intake air temperature, degree of throttle opening and rate of acceleration.
While these are standard features, the R15 M and the Racing Blue colour variant also get segment-first features like traction control and quickshifter as standard.

Performance dip?
Not much has changed in terms of performance The fourth-gen R15 continues to draw power from a VVA-equipped 155cc, single-cylinder motor. But it now puts out 18.4PS and 14.2Nm, 0.2PS less than before. It will also be interesting to see how the traction control system affects the R15’s overall riding experience.
Premium Hardware
The R15 V4 employs the same deltabox chassis, sprung on a premium 37mm USD fork, a rear monoshock and an aluminium swingarm. The updated hardware should make the R15 V4 a better handler than the previous-gen model. The rest, from the disc brakes to tyre sizes to the dual-channel ABS setup, remains pretty much the same.
Money Matters
Model |
Price (ex-showroom, Delhi) |
R15 Metallic Red |
Rs 1,67,800 |
R15 Dark Knight |
Rs 1,68,800 |
R15 Racing Blue |
Rs 1,72,800 |
R15M |
Rs 1,77,800 |
R15 Monster Energy |
Rs 1,79,800 |
With prices starting from Rs 1.67 lakh, the new R15 V4 costs about Rs 10,000 more than the outgoing model. That's a steep asking price, but it makes sense when you consider the amount of work that's gone into the bike and what it has to offer. With the only real full-faired competition being the KTM RC 125 around this price range, the R15 V4 now makes even more sense for new riders.
