Before heading over to the dealership, here’s a detailed look at the Sealion 7 in real-world images:

The BYD Sealion 7’s fascia features a low-slung bonnet, a closed-off grille and sleek LED DRLs. There are plenty of sharp lines which along with the aggressively styled bumper make the Sealion 7 look sporty and appealing.

The SUV is over 4.8 metres in length and features a sloping roofline that adds to the sportiness quotient. The flush door handles complement the premium looks of the SUV. The SUV sits on striking 20-inch alloy wheels and gets some chrome inserts as well for contrast.

It can be opted for in as many as four exterior colour options: Cosmos Black, Atlantis Gray, Aurora White and Shark Gray. The Cosmos Black would be the pick if you ask this author.

Interior And Features

The interior feels plush and premium, suited for those who have a family of around 5 members and want to travel in utmost comfort. In typical BYD style, you get a large rotating touchscreen display mounted on a black glass panel that also hosts the digital driver’s display. The steering wheel is large and the four-spoke unit carries multiple buttons for your various controls and functions. The AC vents’ positioning feels a bit too low, and it is right above the dual wireless phone chargers. It gets a heads-up display which provides you with necessary information and warnings as well. There are streaks of ambient lighting that have been tastefully done.

Its key features include level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, electric sunshades, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, multi-colour ambient lighting, and 9 airbags to keep you safe and sound.

Powertrain

The Sealion 7 gets a large 82.5 kWh battery pack, comes with both single and dual motor options and can be opted for in either RWD or AWD. The entry-level Sealion 7 with the RWD configuration makes 313 PS and 380 Nm and with AWD variant produces 530 PS and 690 Nm. The Sealion 7 comes with a claimed range of up to 567 km.

Expected Price And Rivals

The BYD Sealion 7 is expected to be priced from Rs 45 lakh and go up to Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec variant and will be announced on 17th February. After its launch, it will compete with the likes of the BMW iX1 LWB, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. It is also a more spacious and premium alternative to the BYD Seal which has a more sportier appeal to it.

The Sealion 7 is a compelling option for anyone who wants a premium SUV in the Rs 50 lakh range. What do you think about the SUV? Let us know in the comments.
