Electric vehicles are gaining more and more popularity in almost every segment, and the entry-level luxury electric SUV space has also seen a boost in recent times with many different players entering the segment. BYD’s Seal sedan is already a popular EV in the segment, and now the automaker is set to launch the larger Sealion 7 at a similar price.
Ahead of its launch on February 17, we compare the Sealion 7’s specifications with that of the popular Hyundai Ioniq 5 in detail:

Want an SUV that can push you back into the seat? Then you should consider the top-spec Sealion 7 which is much more powerful than the Ioniq 5. Even the entry-level powertrain of the Sealion 7 is quicker and produces greater output. The Ioniq 5 on the other hand, offers a greater claimed range.
The Ioniq 5 is priced at Rs 46.05 lakh (ex-showroom). The BYD Sealion 7 is expected to be priced from Rs 45 lakh. Other than competing with each other, these two SUVs also face competition from the BMW iX1 LWB, Kia EV 6 as well as the BYD Seal.
On paper, the BYD Sealion 7 looks more promising, especially in the powertrain department. However, the Ioniq 5 is a more tried and tested product in India and its greater claimed range will also give you more peace of mind. It all comes down to the Sealion 7’s pricing which will be out on February 17, 2025. If priced well, the Sealion 7 could possibly at least grab some of Ioniq 5’s market share.
What do you think about these two SUVs? Let us know in the comments.
