While there have been a number of electric scooters in India, the electric motorcycle segment has seen very few players. Revolt has been enjoying a monopoly ever since it launched the RV300 and RV400 here back in 2019. Well, this segment has been heating up off late, and Hyderabad-based EV startup, Atumobile recently launched an electric cafe racer, the Atum Vader. So let's see how this new entrant fares on paper against the RV400.

The RV400 is powered by a 3kW motor that draws power from a 3.24kWh battery, which offers a claimed range of up to 150km in eco mode, 100km in normal mode and 80km in sports mode. The Atum Vader on the other hand gets a 1.5kW motor paired with a 2.4kWh battery pack, capable of a claimed range of 100km. One radical difference between the two powertrains is that while the RV400’s motor is mid-mounted and uses a belt drive, the Atum Vader uses a hub motor.

Braking duties on the Revolt are handled by 240mm discs at both ends featuring a combined braking system. The Atum Vader, on the other hand, gets drum brakes at both ends.

The RV400 offers 215mm of ground clearance, which Revolt claims is the highest amongst all electric two-wheelers in India. However, this bike is 12kg heavier than the Atum Vader, which tips the scales at just 96kg. The Revolt features three riding modes, which, along with the larger battery, help it deliver much better range than the Atum Vader.

The cockpit view from the RV400 reveals a LCD display that gives information about remaining battery charge, range and ambient temperature. The Revolt can also be paired to a smartphone app via Bluetooth and also comes with a 4G-enabled sim card which communicates the bike’s telemetry with the company so that they can better tune the control software and send over-the-air updates to the bike. The Atum Vader on the other hand gets a digital LCD display, and features regenerative braking. Both bikes get all-LED lighting.

The Atum Vader is a new entrant, and while it did have its sights on beating the RV400, it falls short in a few aspects, although it is priced very competitively and looks to be a good bang-for-the-buck product, on paper at least. Nevertheless, the Revolt RV400 is the bike we would recommend as it offers better features, range, performance and has stood the test of time too.
