Porsche has taken the wraps off its updated Taycan. In a way, you’re looking at the first ever Taycan facelift which makes sense given that the luxury performance electric sedan made its global debut in 2019. The Taycan now comes with improvements in the power, range and efficiency departments. That said, the exterior updates are few and noticeable only to the keen-eyed crowd. Let us take a quick look at all the changes in the new Taycan.
The full list of updated specifications for each variant and body type of the Taycan facelift have not been revealed but we do know the changes to the top-spec sedan variant. The Taycan Turbo S now develops 952 PS, which makes it one of Porsche’s most powerful road-legal models. Compared to the outgoing model, the new Turbo S develops a whopping 190 PS more. This has resulted in a 0-100 km/h time of just 2.4 seconds.
There’s also a new push-to-pass function in variants with the Sport Chrono package that offers a boost of up to 95 PS for 10 seconds. The standard rear-wheel-drive Taycan, meanwhile, comes with a performance bump up of 82 PS over the existing 408 PS.
Porsche has also improved the battery with the entry-level models getting a 89 kWh pack while the Performance versions now get a 105 kWh battery pack, an increase from the 93.4 kWh unit.
Porsche has also improved the range of the Taycan across the variants. The entry-level Taycan models now claim between 503 and 678 km of range, while the Taycan Turbo S variants are promising 558 – 630 km from a full charge (WLTP combined figures). The Taycan’s 800 V fast charging has been improved too, and can support faster 320 kW charging, with a 10-80 percent battery top-up possible in a claimed 18 minutes.
Other improvements for powertrain efficiency for the Taycan facelift include a new and more powerful rear-axle motor, along with a host of technical upgrades that improve the recuperation capabilities and battery management as well. It also sits on new 21-inch wheels and tyres, specifically developed for better range.
Changes on the outside include a revised headlight and tail lamp cluster, a flatter front wing, and new 3D Porsche logo at the back. This logo can optionally be illuminated and offer welcome and goodbye animations along with the rear light bar.
On the inside, the driver gets a revised gauge cluster, an updated infotainment system, and an optional leather-free cabin trim option. There is now a new control lever on the left side behind the steering wheel that is expected to improve the control of the ADAS system.
Porsche is now offering an updated chassis with features like air suspension as standard along with an optional Porsche Active Ride system for the all-wheel-drive models. Even though the Taycan now gets more as standard, it is up to 15 kg lighter.
Deliveries in the USA are expected to commence this summer while Porsche might launch the Taycan facelift in India later this year. Along with all these updates, we can expect a bump in the prices as well. The outgoing Porsche Taycan is priced in India from Rs 1.61 crore (ex-showroom) and rivals the Audi e-tron GT and Mercedes-Benz EQS.
So, let us know in the comments what you think of this update for the Porsche Taycan.
