In the world of superfast litre-class track phenoms, the Ducati Panigale V4 has set new benchmarks. And for 2022, Ducati aims to raise the bar higher with the new and improved Panigale V4 and V4 S. So, what has Ducati done?
What’s New?
Ducati focused its energies in five key areas -- engine, electronics, aerodynamics, suspension and ergonomics -- to make the Panigale V4 better for riders of all skill levels.
Starting with the aerodynamics, the new double-profile wings aim to improve aerodynamic efficiency while continuing to generate 37kg of downforce at 300kmph. Redesigned cooling vents in the lower half of the fairing help in cooling the engine down further and maintaining optimum engine performance, even during trackdays.
Ergonomic improvements comprise a flatter seat profile and a different rear shape of the fuel tank. These two changes help the rider in maintaining composure during hard braking scenarios as well as when fully leaned over.
It was already making an insane amount of power but now the 1103cc Desmosedici Stradale V4 has been further tuned out to push 215.5PS and 123.6Nm, 1.5PS more but only 0.04Nm lower than the 2021 model. Ducati has also tweaked the gear ratios, with the first, second and sixth gears being taller than before. The taller sixth and extra power on tap has increased the top speed of the Panigale V4 by 5kmph. Ducati still says mum about the exact figure, though. Is the gentleman’s agreement still in play?
The masters of electronics, Ducati has been able to calibrate new engine modes that would either turn the Panigale V4 into a track scorcher or a Panigale V2, cause that’s how much the engine power is restricted to in Low mode.
Lastly, the suspension on the V4 S has been upgraded to an Öhlins NPX 25/30 USD front fork. The electronically adjustable fork has 5mm more suspension travel and slightly softer springs which would be a treat for riding on our roads.
Just like with every other Ducati released for 2022, the new Panigale V4 receives a fresh lick of paint. The S model does get quite a lot of red colour accents, like the wheel tapes, seat cover and rider seat backrest. While we love the Ducati Red shade, it seems the Italian bike maker has gone a bit overboard with the colour.
ZigSays
Not to be mistaken for going soft, the Panigale V4 has become more versatile and accommodating for all. Yes, it is still just as fast, perhaps even faster. However, the ergonomic and suspension updates should make it a far likeable motorcycle for varied riding scenarios.
