TVS has launched the 2022 Apache RTR 180 and RTR 160 in India with a bunch of new features making it more relevant for the modern day. And here’s how both bikes differ from their previous models.
The TVS Apache RTR 160 is powered by the same 159.7cc single-cylinder 2-valve engine, however, it produces 16.04PS and 13.85Nm. The previous model produced 15.53PS and 13.9Nm. While the torque has been reduced on the updated model, the weight has come down by 2kg as well.
The Apache RTR 180, too, gets the same powertrain, a 177.4cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine producing 17.02PS, which is 0.23PS lesser than the previous gen. It produces the same 15.50Nm but does get a 1kg weight reduction. For better durability, both Apache models are now driven by X-ring chains.
Another significant addition, which is also a segment first, is the ride modes. Both bikes get three ride modes - Sport, Urban and Rain – as standard, which changes the throttle mapping and ABS sensitivity accordingly.
In terms of appearance, both bikes retain the overall design of the older gen models, the same age-old one. However, they do get redesigned headlight and taillight units which now are LED (and not halogen) and are more aggressive than ever. Even the graphics have been updated for an even sportier appeal. It also gets faux vents on the front cowl and an added panel on the fuel extensions.
In terms of features, the TVS Apache RTR 160 and 180 now feature a new fully digital instrument cluster. It gets Bluetooth connectivity, TVS’ SmartXonnect and voice assist (another segment first) as well. They come packed with turn-by-turn navigation, gear position indicator and shift assist, call and notification alerts, race telemetry and lap timer mode. The older cluster was a semi-digital one and would indicate the most basic of data. The connectivity features are standard on the RTR 180, however, on the 160 it is available only on the top variant.
The last bit of changes includes new fatter 120mm rear tyres on both bikes which should work as a confidence booster for the rider. The outgoing model rolled on slimmer 110-section rubbers at the rear.
There’s yet another difference - the change in pricing.
So the Apache RTR 160 drum variant now costs Rs 1,17,790, which is Rs 4,050 more expensive than the previous model. The disc variant is now Rs 1,21,290 and Rs 4550 more. There is also the third variant which also gets the smartphone connectivity and is priced at Rs 1,24,590 (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
The 2022 Apache RTR 180, with all the new features and more, commands a premium of Rs 9,900 over the outgoing model and is priced at Rs 1,30,590 (ex-showroom Delhi).
