Yes, the V6 might have been put to rest, but that’s not a bummer as the new GLC is still insanely quick!

Mercedes will soon launch the standard variants of the new GLC in India. However, as we speak, the folks from Affalterbach have injected some of their madness into the GLC in the overseas market. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the 2023 AMG GLC, which now gets some serious changes, especially under the hood.

First things first, rest in peace to the 3-litre bi-turbo six-cylinder engine, which has been replaced by a 2-litre four-cylinder. But that isn’t a bad thing, as it’s the same from the ballistic Mercedes-AMG A45 S. And if you opt for the even more powerful GLC 63, this engine comes mated with an electric motor – like the new C63 – putting out a whopping 680PS and 1020Nm (combined).

Here’s a detailed look at the specifications of both the variants:

The GLC 63, being a plug-in hybrid, gets a 6.1kWh battery pack. But do note that this car’s electrical system is designed to offer max performance. But if you intend to save some fuel, it still offers an electric-only driving range of relatively minor 12km.

With great power comes great responsibility. And to ensure the AMG GLC can handle all that power, a raft of changes have been made underneath the skin. So the high-performance SUV now gets stiffer springs, active anti-roll bars, larger and more powerful brakes as well as a quicker steering rack with rear-wheel steering. All of this ensures to provide you with an even more involving driving experience.

As with any Mercedes-AMG, the GLC gets bespoke design touches to denote its performance model. So the obvious giveaway is the Panamericana vertical slat grille which, combined with the aggressive front bumper, looks sporty. In profile, it rolls on 21-inch forged alloys that not only look sexy, but gives it a much beefier stance. And topping up the cake is the bespoke rear bumper with quad exhaust outlets.

Inside, you get that opulent dashboard comprising a 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. That said, these screens now run on bespoke AMG-specific user interfaces. Also, you get AMG-specific front seats and steering wheel that add to the sporty look on the inside.

In India, Mercedes-Benz will first launch the standard variants of the GLC on August 9, 2023. Pre-launch bookings are underway and you can find more details about it right here. This model will go up against the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60. We suspect the new AMG GLC to make its way here later.
