Hero has launched the 2024 edition of the Xtreme 160R 4V and the bike now comes with a bunch of useful safety updates and features, from dual channel ABS to emergency brake lights. The new bike goes up against the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, another feature packed sporty 160cc bike. In this comparison, we will be seeing how the 2024 Xtreme 160R 4V compares against the Apache RTR 160 4V dual-channel ABS variant.
The Xtreme 160R 4V comes with a sporty design, with the sleek headlight and muscular tank extensions. What adds a bit of premium feel to the bike overall is the addition of golden inverted fork which makes the bike stand out and also gives it a better road presence
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V features a unique design, which incorporates aggressive styling elements that make the bike stand out quite a bit. The first thing that is noticeable is the headlight design. The headlight looks sharp and the fang like LED DRLs make the front section look a lot more imposing. The tank and tank extensions give the bike a muscular look, but it is not that big when compared to the Xtreme.
Overall, both the bikes have their own unique look and signature. Which one is better depends on what you prefer. If a sporty and more premium look is what you want then the Xtreme 160R 4V makes sense. But if you are looking for something that is a bit more aggressive in styling then the TVS Apache RTR 160 is the way to go.
The Hero Xtreme 160R is powered by a 163.2cc air/oil-cooled engine which produces 16.9PS and 14.6Nm. The Apache RTR 160 on the other hand is powered by a 159.7cc air/oil-cooled engine which produces 17.55PS and 14.73Nm. So in terms of outright performance the RTR 160 4V is the clear winner here.
When comparing the underpinnings, both the bikes are almost equal, but the Xtreme 160R 4V has a slight advantage as it gets a golden KYB inverted fork, which looks quite premium and like mentioned before makes the bike stand out quite a bit.
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V on the other hand gets a conventional telescopic fork, which does its job well but looks a bit too plain.
The TVS Apache RTR gets a fully-digital LCD instrument console with smartphone connectivity and related features such as call/SMS alerts and turn-by-turn navigation via TVS SmartXonnect. The bike also offers 3 riding modes which modulate the level of ABS intervention and power output. The riding modes are Sport, Urban and Rain. With the sport mode providing full power of 17.55PS and 14.73Nm along with the least amount of ABS intervention. The Urban and Rain mode offers 15.64PS and 14.14Nm.
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V on the other hand gets a negatively lit LCD instrument console, and with the new update it has undergone a great increase in brightness. The console offers bluetooth connectivity and related features such as call/SMS alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, trip details, malfunction alerts and a lot of safety features such as theft alerts, crash alerts and remote immobilisation.
Overall, it is hard to decide which bike is the clear winner here as each offers a unique set of features. The RTR 160 4V’s riding modes are a great addition that add a degree of versatility to the bike, whereas the Xtreme 160 4V’s safety features give a better sense of security. So it is a choice of either better riding versatility or better security.
Before we can answer this question, it is important to consider the prices at which both the motorcycles are sold. The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is offered in 3 colours, with the Neon Shooting Star and Stealth Black being priced at Rs 1,38,500 and the new Kevlar Brown costing Rs 1,39,500. The top of the line TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, with dual channel ABS on the other hand costs Rs 1,38,670. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
Now, both the bikes have their strengths and weaknesses with each offering something unique to the table. Which bike you should go for depends on what you are looking for.
If you are someone who wants aggressive looks and better performance along with features such as riding modes then the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V will suit you more. But if premium looks, with the golden inverted forks and security features is what you need, then the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is the bike for you.
