The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has seen a big update recently with the introduction of a new variant that now offers an inverted fork and new colours. But is this enough to make the RTR 160 4V more competitive, if not a better proposition than the currently available Hero Xtreme 160R 4V? We will be answering that question via this image comparison.
Both bikes look really good, offering a sharp and aggressive design. But the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V manages to feel a more aggressive bike thanks to its headlight section and fang-like LED DRLs. Now with the gold-finished inverted fork at the front, the new Apache RTR 160 4V manages to look more premium.
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V looks more muscular with its large tank extensions and the bike both looks and feels larger than the Apache. Overall, in terms of the road presence that both bikes offer, the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V manages to impress a lot more than the Apache.
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is powered by a 159.7cc air and oil-cooled engine that produces 17.55PS and 14.73Nm.
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V on the other hand is powered by a slightly larger, 163.2cc air and oil-cooled engine, producing 16.9PS and 14.6Nm. So in terms of performance, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V on paper leaves the Xtreme 160R 4V behind.
When it comes to underpinnings, both bikes get a similar suspension setup with an inverted fork and a monoshock. The braking setup is similar as well, with both bikes getting discs at both ends.
The Xtreme 160R 4V gets a 276mm petal disc at the front and a 220mm petal disc at the rear. The Apache RTR 160 4V gets a 270mm petal disc at the front and a 240mm petal disc at the rear. In terms of brakes, the Apache has a slight edge here.
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has a lot more to offer in terms of features. The bike gets a digital instrument console with TVS SmartXonnect and related features such as turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts among others.
It also offers 3 riding modes: Rain, Urban, and Sport which reduces the power delivery and the level of ABS intervention. In the Rain and Urban mode, the bike only has 15.64PS and 14.14Nm, whereas the Sport mode offers the full 17.55PS and 14.73Nm.
The Hero Xtreme 160R offers a simple instrument console with features such as a drag race timer. The bike also has a lot of safety features on offer like crash and theft alerts, and also a remote immobilisation feature.
When it comes to performance and features, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has a lot more to offer than the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V. Both the bikes are similarly priced as well, with the Apache’s top-of-the-line variant coming at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1,39,990 and the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is priced at Rs 1,38,500 (both ex-showroom Delhi).
The difference between the two comes to Rs 1,490, which is a reasonable premium for the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V given the better performance and features.
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is still worth considering if you are looking for a bike that can offer good road presence and a decent set of safety features.
