KTM India has launched the 250 Adventure alongside the 390 Adventure series. Launched at a price of Rs 2,59,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) the 250 Adventure does not compete with the Suzuki V-Strom SX by price but by engine capacity. Let's see how these motorcycles compete against each other.
The 2025 KTM 250 Adventure gets its styling inspiration from the bigger 390 Adventure series. It looks like a proper Dakar rally motorcycle with its tall visor, high mounted instrument console, slim seat, tall stance and big fuel tank. The 250 Adventure gets 2 colour options White and Orange which suit the motorcycle quite well.
The Suzuki V-Strom SX gets its design inspiration from the bigger V-Stroms. It gets the proper Adventure tourer credentials and looks good. The V-Strom SX also gets a tall stance, tall visor, front beak and a tail rack which enhances its overall look. It is available in three colour options: Glass Sparkle Black, Champion Yellow No 2, Metallic Sonoma Red.
For 2025 the 250 Adventure gets the new motor from the 250 Duke. This 249cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine makes 31PS and 25Nm. In the 250 Duke, this engine has been praised for being better than its predecessor and providing a smooth power delivery.
The Suzuki V-Strom SX shares its powertrain with the Gixxer 250 series and recently got the OBD-2B update. This 249cc single-cylinder, air and oil-cooled engine produces 26.5PS and 22.2Nm. This engine is known for its refinement and excellent power delivery.
The KTM 250 Adventure now gets all the bells and whistles one can possibly wish for in an Adventure tourer. It gets WP Apex long travel suspension with 200mm of travel on both ends along with preload adjustability for the rear monoshock. For braking duties it gets a 320mm front and 240mm rear disc brake setup. The new 250 Adventure gets an axially-mounted twin-piston caliper. This motorcycle gets a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels. It gets a 825mm seat height which is quite manageable for riders of all sizes. The 250 Adventure gets an impressive ground clearance of 232mm. The fuel tank is 14-litres.
The Suzuki V-Strom SX gets the same suspension setup as the Gixxer 250 series motorcycles. It uses a telescopic fork and a rear monoshock with preload adjustability. The V-Strom SX gets a rather basic 120mm of suspension travel on both ends. Braking duties are taken care of by a 300mm front and 220mm rear disc brake setup. This motorcycle gets a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheel setup. The saddle height is kept at 835mm, which, in comparison, is slightly more than the 250 adventure. The V-Strom SX gets a ground clearance of 205mm. It gets a 12-litre fuel tank which is relatively smaller than the 250 Adventure.
The 250 Adventure is one of the most tech loaded motorcycles in the segment. It gets a 5-inch colour TFT display – same as the 390 Duke. This display shows all the crucial information like speed, rpm, temperature, gear position indicators, time, service reminder, distance to empty, mileage, side stand warning and trip info. It also supports smartphone connectivity along with turn-by-turn navigation and SMS/call alerts. The 2025 250 ADV gets all LED lights. The 2025 250 Adventure gets switchable IMU-based cornering ABS, switchable traction control, quickshifter and cruise control. The most important feature which will be appreciated by specific customers is the switchable ABS. This gives the 250 Adventure slightly more advantage while off-road.
The V-Strom SX gets an LED headlight and halogen taillight along with bulb indicators. It gets a digital instrument console which shows all the crucial information like speed, rpm, temperature, gear position indicators, time, service reminder, side stand warning and trip info. It also gets smartphone connectivity which allows turn-by-turn navigation and SMS/call alerts. The V-Strom gets a dual-channel ABS however, it cannot be turned off. In comparison to the 250 Adventure, the V-Strom SX looks like an under-specced motorcycle.
As mentioned earlier, both of these motorcycles only compete with each other because of similar engine capacity. The price for the KTM 250 Adventure is Rs 2,59,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), whereas for the V-Strom SX it is Rs 2,11,900 (ex-showroom).
For the price the KTM does offer a lot more performance, features and is a much more capable motorcycle while off-roading. However, the lower price tag of the V-Strom SX makes it a brilliant option if you are on a tight budget.
Both KTM and Suzuki are almost on par when it comes to after sales and service, which makes owning either of the two a hassle free experience.
