The upcoming Tata Curvv is already gathering significant attention, as it will be Tata’s first product to take on traditional compact SUVs in our market. However, it won’t be the only model providing a SUV-coupe alternative to those conventional SUVs, as Citroen will be launching its Basalt very soon as well.
While both the cars are due for a launch, we know a few feature details from their respective spy shots and teaser campaigns. Keeping those in mind, here are 5 features the Curvv is expected to offer over the Basalt.
The Tata Curvv is expected to come equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, both larger than those found in the Basalt, which will likely include a 10.2-inch infotainment system and a 7-inch digital driver’s display. Rest assured, both the Basalt and Curvv are expected to come with wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. So it’s just the screen size that’s going to be different.
Another feature that will make the Curvv will boast over the Basalt is the panoramic sunroof. Interior sketches, spy shots and the earlier unveiling indicate that the Curvv will likely feature a panoramic sunroof, which will be a miss in the Basalt. We aren’t sure if the Basalt is even going to get a single-pane sunroof as none of the spy shots or teasers have hinted at its presence yet.

Tata Motors already offers ventilated front-row seats with models like the Nexon, Harrier, and even the Punch EV, and the Curvv is expected to continue this trend. This feature will be important for buyers in regions where summers are harsh, making it one of the key reasons to choose the Curvv over the Basalt.
The Curvv is expected to come with a multi-speaker branded audio system, likely from JBL, which already supplies audio systems for bigger Tata models. This will offer a better audio experience for Curvv customers. In contrast, the Basalt is expected to be equipped with a regular non-branded audio system.
Earlier spy shots of the Curvv showcased a camera module on the windscreen, indicating that it will likely come equipped with an ADAS system. This system could include features such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot assist, front and rear collision warnings, and high beam assist.
In comparison, the Basalt is not expected to offer any autonomous tech, but will feature 6 airbags, a reverse parking camera with sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts, along with other standard safety equipment, which will likely be similar as the Curvv
Regarding their launch timelines, Tata will first launch the Curvv EV on August 7, 2024, followed by the ICE-powered Curvv later this year. On the other hand, Citroen has confirmed that the Basalt will be launched next month.
Price-wise, both the Curvv and Basalt are expected to start from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Besides competing with each other, both models will serve as alternatives to SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Skoda Kushaq.
