Hero launched the Mavrick 440 at a very attractive price tag earlier this year and after we rode it, we realised there were a lot of things that made the flagship Hero bike very likeable. So if you want an agile, nimble yet commanding modern roadster at a price tag of Rs 1.99 lakh ex showroom, here are five reasons why the Hero Mavrick 440 makes for a very good choice:
Specifications |
Hero Mavrick 440 |
Engine |
440cc TorqX engine with oil cooler |
Maximum Torque |
36Nm at 4000rpm |
Maximum Power |
27.3PS at 6000rpm |
Transmission |
6-speed, with slip and assist clutch |
The Hero Mavrick 440’s Torqx engine with strong low end torque makes riding through city traffic just effortless. You can slot it in higher gears at lower speeds and the bike has enough torque available for you to filter through traffic comfortably.
And for the days when you want to zip around spiritedly, you’ll realise that you don’t need to rev the Mavrick 440 hard to get it going at a brisk pace. Its engine is among the torquiest in its class and it makes all of that at just 4000rpm. Open the throttle, you’ll enjoy riding the wave of torque, and before you even know it, you’ll find yourself gliding on open roads without any signs of stress on the Mavrick.
Of late, Hero has been absolutely nailing the suspension setting and chassis design of its bikes and the Mavrick 440 is no different. We rode the Mavrick through some bad roads in the Rann of Kutch and the plush suspension absorbed everything we threw at it. And things only get better in the city, because it comfortably absorbs every little undulation. And all this plushness was felt by both our 67kg and 80kg riders, which shows just how versatile the Mavrick 440’s suspension truly is.
What takes the overall comfort up a notch are the riding posture and seat. The ergonomics are on point and the Mavrick 440 places you in an upright, neutral riding position that you can be in all day long. As for the seat, it’s spacious and is well-cushioned, meaning your butt is just as comfortable too. Once again, the Mavrick was just as comfortable for our 6’0” rider as it was for our 5’7” rider. It is hence, hands down one of the most comfortable bikes in this segment.
The Mavrick 440 is one of the most feature-loaded bikes in its segment. The negatively-lit LCD console packs advanced connected tech like Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation, estimated time of arrival (ETA), call and SMS alerts, a phone battery indicator, low fuel indicator, distance-to-empty and even a clock. Moreover, if you opt for the top-end variant, it has e-sim-based connectivity features which unlocks as many as 35 functions! Apart from these, there’s LED lighting all around, and the headlight automatically switches on when it gets dark, and switches back off when you’re riding in bright sunlight.

The high tensile steel trellis frame enables high speed stability and superior handling on short weekend getaways. The Mavrick 440 handles very well for a modern roadster. While the 187kg kerb weight (191kg on the spoke wheels variant) might seem a bit high on paper, that weight just disappears the moment you take the bike off the stand. And the 17-inch wheels mean the Mavrick changes directions effortlessly… a lot better than its rivals with 18-inch wheels.
The soft suspension of the Mavrick doesn’t make it feel wobbly in corners. In fact, with its 17-inch wheels, the Mavrick 440 can be a lot of fun in the twisties. The bike tips in with very little effort and once leaned over, it maintains its line very well. The feeling of stability inspires a lot of confidence. But again, it’s not all cramped-up -- the comfortable ergonomics mean even taller riders have space to move around while riding and even if you want to do some serious corner carving, you can move around on the Mavrick 440 and get into a proper cornering posture.
With its metal bodywork, the Mavrick 440 is a sturdy and well-built bike. The overall fit and finish of the motorcycle is a notch above. Thanks to chiseled metal fuel tank, high tensile steel trellis frame and premium switchgear, the Mavrick 440 boasts a strong yet plush build quality.
To sum things up, the Mavrick 440 is a very comfortable, nimble and feature-loaded modern roadster; one that’s very well-priced too. So if you’re looking for a modern roadster in this segment that reflects your personality the Mavrick 440 ticks all the right boxes.
