Fresh exterior and interior design follows the same treatment as the Q6 e-tron.
Gets three turbocharged mild-hybrid powertrains: 2-litre petrol and diesel, and a 3-litre V6.
To launch globally in the first quarter of 2025.
Audi is on a mission to revamp its model lineup globally. We recently got the new Q6 e-tron, which was followed by the new A5 (replacing the A4), and now, we have the new-gen Q5 SUV. It has broken cover globally, and is based on Audi’s new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform, which embraces a mild-hybrid powertrain. The design is new, the interiors are fresh, and there are multiple powertrains on offer, including a V6 engine (limited to the sportier S Q5).
In this story, we take a look at the top 5 things to know about the third-gen Audi Q5:
The new Q5 follows the design language of the new Audis, but still, you can draw similarities with the outgoing model. The huge centre grille is here to stay, and it is now flanked by even bigger air dams on the side, which get contrasting surrounds, just like the main grille for an even more aggressive look. The headlights are now sleeker, and sport Audi’s ‘OLED’ lighting technology, which have different light signatures.
The profile of the body looks sporty with its sloping roofline and aggressive body contours. There are plenty of options for the alloys, with sizes ranging from 17- to 21-inch, depending on the variant.
The rear styling looks very similar to the Q6 e-tron, with similar connected LED tail lights. The difference comes in the form of the bumper, which has been raised and houses the integrated diffuser underneath. The tailpipes are real, and their shape and size depends on the engine and variant you opt for.
Overall, there are three versions available for the styling of the new Q5: basic, advanced exterior and S line exterior. All of these sport specific styling cues and there are eleven choice colors to choose from.
Continuing the similarities with the Q6 e-tron, the new Q5 boasts a very similar ‘three-dimensional’ cabin layout, which is made of three big screens for the most part. The main screen is a 14.5-inch unit, while the driver’s display is a 11.9-inch unit. The 10.9-inch passenger display is an option, and allows the passenger to use the infotainment system or even assist the driver for navigation.

There are a bunch of different materials used for what Audi calls a ‘homely ambience’ and there’s no shortage of features either.
Apart from the three aforementioned screens, the new Q5 gets a heads-up display, a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System, multi-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. It even features third-party apps integrated directly into the MMI, so you don’t have to use your phone to operate apps such as Youtube.
On the safety front, it gets multiple airbags, a host of electronic aids, and ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, park assist, auto emergency braking and more.
Audi is offering the new Audi Q5 with three engine options globally. All of them are paired to a 48V mild hybrid system which makes use of a 1.7kW battery pack, which assists the engine and helps reduce fuel consumption. All three engines are paired to a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.
The base petrol option is a 2-litre turbocharged unit with an output of 204PS and 340Nm. Front-wheel drive is standard here, but the quattro all-wheel drive is also available as an option. There’s only one option for people wanting a diesel: a 2-litre unit with an output of 204PS and 400Nm and this engine is paired to the all-wheel drivetrain as standard.
The top model of the range, the SQ5 packs a 3-litre turbo-charged V6 petrol engine, which puts out 367PS and 550Nm. Once again, this engine is offered only with all-wheel drive.
Audi will launch the new Q5 in Germany and various European countries starting in the first quarter of 2025. We won’t rule out a launch in India, considering the Q5 has been a popular car here and it could happen sometime in late 2025.
When it arrives, expect it to carry a premium over the current Q5, which is priced from Rs 65.51 lakh to Rs 72.30 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, it’ll put up a tougher fight against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60.
