We had a chance to test out some really insane big bikes this year. We rode 3 ADVs and 2 naked streetfighters. Here’s a brief overview of the bikes and what we liked about them.
The Triumph Tiger 900 Rally had been updated for 2024, with a few changes to its design and performance. The design changes are not that big, and not really noticeable. But where the bike truly shines now is performance.
Triumph has made some changes to the compression ratios, which has increased the engine’s power and performance. The engine now outputs 108PS and 90Nm, which is a substantial increase of 13PS and 3Nm. What we really liked about the engine is how tractable it is. Riding at slow speeds of 60kmph at 6th gear is quite easy.
The hardware has also seen a few upgrades. The bike now gets Stylema calipers which have improved the braking performance. The brakes now feel a lot sharper and bring the bike to a halt without any trouble. Features wise, Triumph has given the bike a big upgrade as well. Now it gets the same 7-inch TFT console as the larger Triumph Tiger 1200. The Tiger 900 Rally Pro is sold at a starting price of Rs 15.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally was definitely one of the most powerful ADVs we have ridden this year. The Multistrada is powered by a liquid-cooled V4 engine which churns out 170PS and 121Nm.
The bike can easily cruise at triple digit speeds without feeling stressed. While we were testing the bike, higher speeds of 120kmph felt like 60kmph. With all that power, it is easy to ride at higher speeds without noticing.
The bike looks quite large and tips the scale at 240kg. But despite the size and weight, the bike is quite capable offroad. What really makes the Multistrada stand out is the usage of advanced electronics like adaptive cruise control and blindspot monitoring. The bike is priced at Rs 29.72 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Ducati Monster SP is the top-of-the-line variant in the Italian manufacturer’s Monster lineup. The bike gets better underpinnings, with Ohlins suspension and even a steering damper.
In the real world it feels like it just wants to be let loose, and doesn’t like being ridden slowly. The feels really powerful on the road, and what makes the experience even better is the Termignoni exhaust.
The bike has a simple and clean looking 4.3-inch TFT display, which offers essential readouts. In terms of electronic riding aids, it has traction control, concerning ABS and wheelie control. All these features can be customized with each riding mode. The Monster SP is sold at a price of Rs 15.95 lakh (ex-showroom),
The Honda XL750 Transalp is an ADV offering from the Japanese manufacturer. The bike follows the legacy of the original Honda XL600V Transalp which was first introduced in 1896.
The bike has an easy-going nature, with linear acceleration and power delivery. With the kerb weight of 207kg, it is towards the heavier side but the weight is not felt when riding. The suspension setup is really plush and easily absorbs most bumps, potholes and off-road obstacles with ease.
The bike has a 5-inch TFT console and gets 4 riding modes: Rain, Road, Sport, Gravel and User. The User mode allows the rider to customize the traction control, ABS and other electronic riding aids. The bike also has smartphone connectivity and Honda’s voice assist system called Honda Smartphone Voice Assist (HSVA). The Transalp is sold at an ex-showroom price of Rs 11 lakh.
The Ducati Streetfighter V4 was the most powerful bike we had tested this year. The bike packs 208PS into a really compact package, and it is terrifying how fast this bike is. Up until 8000rpm, it offers linear acceleration. But once you have pushed past 8000rpm, you can’t help but hold on for dear life.
The bike is a naked streetfighter, but is quite aggressive in terms of ergonomics. This makes it really fun when hitting the twisties. But you will have some trouble when riding in the city and highway.
The Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 electronic suspension setup is another interesting bit the bike gets. The suspension setup manages to offer a plush ride quality regardless of the surface. Overall, the Streetfighter V4 is definitely our favorite bike out of all the big bikes we have ridden this year. It is sold at an ex-showroom price of Rs 28 lakh.
