Ahead of its official launch the price of the 2022 KTM RC 390 has been revealed on the firm’s Indian website. What’s more astounding is that the updated model of the supersport will be commanding a premium of Rs 36,287 over the outgoing model, amounting to a significantly high price of Rs 3,13,922 (ex-showroom Delhi).
Just like its international-spec sibling, the India-spec RC 390 will get a whole bunch of updates over the previous model. These include a lighter trellis frame with a bolt-on subframe, 1.7kg lighter five-spoke alloys, a larger 13.7-litre fuel tank and lighter braking hardware. These updates will make the bike lighter, sharper and more race-oriented.
The supersport machine also comes packed with a new TFT instrument cluster borrowed from its siblings and upgraded electronics including a quickshifter, cornering ABS and traction control.
Powering the supersport is the familiar 373cc engine, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine equipped with a larger airbox, and tuned to churn out 43.5PS and 37Nm (1Nm more).
However, the absence of an adjustable front suspension on the 2022 KTM RC 390 (as seen on the international model) is quite disheartening, especially considering the significantly large premium being asked for it. Even the recently launched 2022 KTM 390 Adventure misses out on the same.
While the updates on the new RC 390 are significant, they don’t justify the high asking price. The USP of KTM in India was offering powerful, feature-rich and sporty motorcycles at a competitive price. With its recent pricing strategy, KTM has positioned itself as a premium brand and hence the drop in sales. The 2022 RC 390 is a much-improved motorcycle for sure, but the price premium is a bit too much in our opinion.
