Ceat has launched a new range of steel radial tyres: Sportrad and Crossrad with the aim of taking the performance of their two-wheeler tyre range to the next level. The new tyre ranges will allow high performance motorcycles from supersports to ADVs to unleash their full potential.
The Sportrad series is a steel belted radial tyre offering from Ceat and it offers riders road focused tyres that provide sporty performance, better cornering capabilities and high speed stability. It comes with a 80:20 road/off-road bias so is primarily meant to be used on the roads.
The platform is equipped with equidistant midcrown groves for enhanced cornering stability, while also incorporating advanced features such as slick shoulders to ensure grip while cornering hard.
The groove design is also optimised for better wet grip and also comes with a maximised slick area at the crown that can provide stability for speeds up to 270kmph. The silica-blended tread gives the tyre a perfect balance in terms of stiffness and ensures adequate grip on the road. With these tyres, Ceat is planning on targeting the entry level sport and adventure segment.
According to Ceat it will be launched in two sizes initially, 110/70ZR17 and 150/60ZR17 with a price of Rs 12,500 for a set. It is meant for motorcycles such as the KTM 390 Duke and 250 Duke, KTM RC 200 and RC 390 along with Bajaj Dominar 400, Aprilia RS 457 and the TVS Apache RR310.
Crossrad on the other hand is more of a dual-sport tyre with a 60:40 road/offroad bias that is designed to give riders better grip on all terrain along with cornering stability and improved handling. It uses a similar steel belted construction as the Sportrad.
It comes with an asymmetrical block tread design with transversal grooves placed along the circumference of the tyre, this combines to provide better grip in off-road terrain, especially gravel and mud. The interconnected shoulder blocks offer a wide contact area and this translates to enhanced cornering grip on road.
The Crossrad comes at a price of Rs 4,300 for a tyre, and is compatible with motorcycles such as Yamaha FZ range, which includes the Yamaha FZ-FI V3, Yamaha FZ-S FI V3, the and Yamaha FZ-S FI V4 Deluxe, and Suzuki Gixxer series that includes, the Gixxer SF and the Gixxer, and is currently offered in one size, 140/60R17.
With these new tyres Ceat is planning on targeting 4 motorcycle segments: Entry level sport, supersport, sports touring and adventure. Among these, the sport touring and supersport tyres will come in a few months. The two launched platforms, Sportrad and Crossrad will be expanded to cater to super sport, sport touring and adventure touring segments as well. The company has also roped in India’s first Moto3 rider Geoffrey Emmanuel as its first brand ambassador in racing.
On the occasion of the launch Arnab Banerjee, MD & CEO, Ceat, commented, “Steel Rad series is a testament to CEAT's commitment to innovation and quality. With the Steel Rad series, we are introducing a new era of motorcycle tyres that combine cutting-edge technology with a passion for performance. We understand the unique needs of riders with high-performance bikes, and these tyres are designed to meet and exceed their expectations. From extreme lean angles to high-speed stability, every aspect has been meticulously crafted to enhance the riding experience."
