Many luxury vehicles were launched in the month of July, including a couple of EVs and a premium sedan from BMW

The month of July brought us some exciting new car launches, including EVs, plenty of luxury SUVs, an off-roader and the long wheelbase version of a BMW sedan. With so many new cars entering the Indian car space this month, we expect August to be no less, as we are going to witness multiple mass market car launches in the coming month. To know more about those upcoming launches, stay tuned! But for now, let’s take a look at the cars that were launched in the month of July: 

2024 BMW 5 Series

The 2024 BMW 5 Series was launched on our shores at Rs 72.9 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the first time the 5 Series is getting a long wheelbase version to take on the very popular Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The new 5 Series gets a new sleeker design for the exterior and an upgraded cabin with a host of features.

Its features include a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control, 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system, powered front seats and multi-colour ambient lighting. Its safety net consists of ADAS, multiple airbags, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera as well as front and rear parking sensors.

It is powered by a single 2-litre turbo-petrol engine which makes 258 PS of power. It gets an  8-speed automatic transmission which sends power to the rear wheels. A diesel engine is expected to be introduced in the future.

Mini Cooper S 

Mini India introduced the fifth-generation Cooper S in India from Rs 44.9 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets an evolutionary exterior design, a brand new cabin and a slightly more powerful engine.  Bookings are underway with deliveries for the new Cooper S expected to start soon.

In terms of features, it gets a new 9.4-inch touchscreen, multi-colour ambient lights, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, connected car tech, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS. 

It is equipped with a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine that generates a bit more power than before at 204 PS and 300 Nm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It goes from 0-100 kmph in 6.6 seconds. 

Mini Countryman Electric

The Mini Countryman was launched at Rs 54.90 lakh (ex-showroom) along with the BMW 5 Series and Cooper S. It comes in an all-electric version for the first time in India, with a 66.45 kWh battery pack paired with a single front-wheel drive electric motor. It features a minimalist design for both exterior as well as interior.

Key features include a 9.4-inch OLED infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, connected car technology, and automatic climate control. Safety features include multiple airbags, level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), dynamic stability control and electronic parking brake. 

As mentioned above, it gets a 66.45 kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor producing 204 PS. It offers a WLTP-claimed range of 462 km, and is capable of charging from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes, using a 130 kW DC fast charger.

Maserati Grecale

Maserati launched the Grecale, which is its entry-level SUV, priced from Rs 1.31 crore to Rs 2.05 crore (ex-showroom). It is available in three trims: GT, Modena and Trofeo. It features an aggressively styled exterior for a sporty appearance, and gets a feature-loaded cabin made up of premium materials.

It comes with a 12.3-inch display for the infotainment system, an 8.8-inch screen below it for HVAC controls, a 12-inch digital driver’s display, connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, an optional heads-up display, powered front seats with memory function, ambient lighting, and a 3D sound system with up to 21 speakers (depending on the variant). Safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, a host of level-2 ADAS features, and a 360-degree camera.

The base and mid-spec variants get a 2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, but with two different tunes - 300 PS and 330 PS. The top-spec Trofeo variant gets a 3-litre V6 petrol engine which churns out 530 PS and can do a 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.8 seconds. 

Porsche Macan EV

Porsche introduced a new entry-level variant for the Porsche Macan EV, from Rs 1.22 crore (ex-showroom). A Macan 4S variant was also introduced and sits between the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo Electric. The new entry-level Macan EV gets a 100 kWh battery pack with a single rear axle motor which makes 360 PS and 563 Nm.

It gets a large 12.6-inch curved display for the digital drivers instrumentation, a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a heads-up display with augmented reality tech and a screen for the front passenger, which is optional. Other key features include an ADAS kit, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, multi-colour ambient lighting and a 360-degree camera. 

The base-spec version gets a single rear axle motor which makes up to 360 PS and 563 Nm. The mid-spec Macan 4S gets a dual motor setup which produces 516 PS and 820 Nm. The top-spec Turbo variant gets a 100kWh battery pack paired with dual electric motors that churns out 639 PS and 1130 Nm. It offers a range of 591km and the EV can achieve a 0-100 sprint in a quick 3.3 seconds time. 

Mercedes-Benz EQA 

Mercedes-Benz launched the EQA from Rs 66 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the entry-level EV in the German carmaker's India lineup, placed below the EQE SUV. It is available in a single 250+ variant and can be had with 8 colour options to opt from. It offers an WLTP-claimed range of up to 560 km.

The EQA is adorned with features like, dual 10.25-inch screens for the infotainment screen and digital driver’s display setup with EV-specific graphics, wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto,a panoramic sunroof,  dual-zone climate control unit, a heads up display, 64-colour ambient lighting, a premium Burmester surround sound system, keyless entry and powered front seats. 

Safety is taken care of by ADAS, 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, hill-descent control, hill-start assist, traction control, a 360 degree surround view camera with front and rear parking sensors, and parking assist. 

It features a 190 PS and 385 Nm front-wheel drive e-motor that is paired with a 70.5 kWh battery pack. This combination helps to achieve the WLTP-claimed range of 560 km. With fast charging capabilities, it can go from 10 to 80 percent in just 35 minutes using a 100 kW charger.

Mercedes-Benz EQB Facelift

Along with the EQA, Mercedes-Benz also introduced the EQB Facelift from Rs 70.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It got a new 250+ variant along with the 350 4MATIC variant, and is now available in both 5- and 7-seater configurations. It comes with two battery pack options and has a claimed range of up to 535km. Bookings are open for the SUV, but deliveries will only begin from January 2025.

It comes with a feature-loaded cabin with niceties including dual screens consisting of the digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment system (supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), a heads-up display, gesture control, a 12-speaker Burmester sound system, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, powered front seats with memory function, dual-zone climate control, connected car technology, and ambient lighting. 

Taking care of your safety are the level-2 ADAS features, a 360-degree camera, 7 airbags, and electronic stability control.

The new EQB 250+ gets a larger 70.5 kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor that produces 190 PS and 385 Nm. On the other hand, the EQB 350 4MATIC comes with the smaller 66.5 kWh battery pack, but is paired with dual motors and an all-wheel drive setup, to generate 292 PS and 520 Nm.

Land Rover Defender Octa 

Land Rover launched the Defender Octa, from Rs 2.65 crore (ex-showroom). It is the most powerful version of the Defender and is based on the Defender 110 (5-door). It is offered in two variants: Octa and Octa Edition One. It gets improved off-road capabilities and a powerful twin-turbo V8 petrol engine.

The Octa variant is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine with mild hybrid tech, which produces 635 PS and 750 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels by the 8-speed automatic transmission. The off-roader can reach from nought to 100 kmph in just 4 seconds.

Porsche Taycan Facelift

Porsche launched the Taycan facelift, prices for which begin from Rs 1.89 crore (ex-showroom). The facelift brings in minor tweaks to both exterior and interior. The real change comes in the form of bigger battery packs and higher charging capabilities.

With the update, the three-spoke steering wheel gets a control lever on the left side to change the various ADAS features. It gets a heads-up display, along with multiple digital screens to control the various functions. Other key features include 4-zone climate control, 14-way powered front seats with memory functions and ventilated seats.

The Taycan is available with two battery pack options, including a 89 kWh and a 105 kWh battery. These battery packs can be had with both rear- and all-wheel drivetrain, depending on the variant you choose. The base-spec Taycan produces 408PS and 410 Nm, the mid-spec variant makes 544PS and 695Nm, while the top-spec variant churns out 884 PS and 890 Nm. The Taycan Turbo can go from 0-100 kmph in just 2.7 seconds.
