A video of an ADV bike outside a Yamaha dealership has surfaced on the internet. And though the idea of a small-capacity adventure bike from the Japanese manufacturer seems exciting, it is, in fact, a heavily modified FZ-X.
The short video shows the orange-painted ADV being moved around, revealing quite a few interesting details. For starters, the stubby visor seems to be off a Royal Enfield Himalayan, and so are the seats and the pillion grab rail. However, the front fender, along with the wire-spoke rims seem to be borrowed from a Hero XPulse 200.
Furthermore, this custom bike also has long-travel front suspension which are likely to be from Hero’s ADV. Bits like the handlebar and side panels aren’t sourced from any bike and are custom built.
There is no clear picture of the exhaust, and the ADV could very well use an underbelly unit instead of the side-mounted one on the stock bike. However, it is unlikely that there are any changes to the 149cc air-cooled engine. In the stock avatar, it makes 12.4PS and 13.3Nm. With the additional weight and the knobby tyres, the power delivery would be affected.
This custom bike seems to be from the customisation challenge held by Yamaha last year. And though the idea of an affordable ADV from Team Blue is fascinating, we hope it is not based on the FZ platform but perhaps the WR 155 R.
