Citroen launched the Basalt SUV-coupe on August 9, 2024, but had only announced the prices for the base variant. However, the French carmaker has finally revealed the full price range, which starts from Rs 7.99 lakh for the base variant and goes up to Rs 13.62 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-end variant. Although introductory, Citroen has priced its new SUV coupe rather aggressively, which will be available in 3 different variants to choose from.
Interested folks can book the Basalt at their nearest showroom, but before you do that, let’s take a look at what you get with the Basalt:

Design-wise the Basalt’s coupe body type is what stands out and sets it apart from other SUVs in the segment. The fascia looks nearly identical to the C3 Aircross, albeit with minor design tweaks. It features a split LED DRL setup, placed above the LED projector headlamps. Adding a bit of chunk to the front look are the squared-off elements in the grille and aggressively styled bumpers. The lower section of the bumper houses the fog lamps.
In profile, the Basalt’s sloping roofline catches attention instantly and merges seamlessly into the rear. The 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels look sporty and nice, but the old-school door handles look slightly outdated, especially when compared to other SUVs in the segment.

The Basalt comes with 5 monotone and 2 dualtone colour options: Polar White, Platinum Grey, Cosmo Blue, Steel Grey, and Garnet Red, Polar White with a grey roof (dualtone) and Garnet Red with a black roof (dualtone).
Coming to the rear, you get wraparound LED tail lamps, which gives it a fresh look compared to the trending connected tail lights setup which almost all carmakers are offering nowadays with their new cars. Continuing and adding to the sportiness quotient is the shark fin antenna and the bulky looking silver skid plate.
Here’s a look at its dimensions:

Get inside the cabin and you will notice some major similarities with the interior of the C3 and C3 Aircross. Taking the centre stage is the floating 10.2-inch infotainment unit positioned above the AC vents which get silver accents on them. A familiar sight on Citroen models are the large AC vents on the corners. The cabin is adorned with white upholstery and a minimalist design overall.

A unique and segment-first feature for the rear passenger seats is the adjustable underthigh support function, which moves the base of the seat for extra comfort.
The Citroen Basalt comes with a decent list of equipment for its price range. The key features include, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, wireless phone charging, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and steering mounted audio controls.
Taking care of the safety are 6 airbags, rear parking camera with sensors, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
The Basalt’s feature list covers all the essentials, but misses out on certain niceties such as, a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, and front parking sensors.

The NA petrol misses out on the automatic transmission and also offers the lowest fuel efficiency. The automatic variant of the turbo-petrol produces the most output but it is the manual which has the greater claimed mileage.
The Citroen Basalt will be an alternative to the lower to mid-spec variants of conventionally designed compact SUVs such as, the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate and VW Taigun. It will also rival the upcoming ICE Tata Curvv, which is set to be launched on September 2, 2024.
