Citroen is all geared up to launch the highly anticipated Basalt in India tomorrow. The Basalt will be the French automaker’s fifth product for the Indian market and features a unique SUV-coupe look with its distinctive sloping roofline design. The Basalt will directly compete with the upcoming Tata Curvv upon its launch. Bookings for the Citroen Basalt have already commenced at select dealerships across the country. Here’s an overview of the Citroen Basalt.
The Citroen Basalt gets unique styling, thanks to its sloping roofline design which gives it the SUV-coupe look. The front fascia carries a lot of resemblance and similarities to the C3 Aircross with its large grille and a split LED DRL setup. However, the Basalt comes with LED projector headlamps, which have also been added to the C3 Aircross.
The side profile stance is accentuated with the sporty looking 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and the sloping roofline giving it a distinctive appeal. The back features wrap-around tail lights, a silver finished skid plate and a roof mounted shark-fin antenna.
The interior dashboard layout is identical to the one found in the C3 Aircross, but with a lighter shade for the interior trims. The centre stage is taken by the large touchscreen and the steering wheel remains the same as found in the C3 and C3 Aircross. Noticeably, a central armrest with storage, automatic climate control and adjustable rear seat thigh support have been included.
The Citroen Basalt will be offered in 5 monotone colour shades and 2 dual tone options. The colour palette includes: Polar White, Platinum Grey, Cosmo Blue, Steel Grey, and Garnet Red. Dual-tone options include Polar White with a grey roof and Garnet Red with a black roof.
The Citroen Basalt is going to be a feature loaded SUV-coupe with equipment such as a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, rear seat underthigh support with 3 steps adjustment and wireless phone charging. Unfortunately, it misses out on a sunroof option and a 360 degree surround view camera.
Safety tech is up to date with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard across the trims. Furthermore, it gets a rear camera with parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
The Citreon Basalt will be offered with two engine options: a 82 PS 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a 110 PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. The naturally aspirated engine can only be had with a 5-speed manual transmission, while the more powerful turbo-petrol engine can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The Citroen Basalt is expected to be priced from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and it will directly compete against the upcoming Tata Curvv SUV-coupe. The Basalt will also rival other compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
