Thankfully, BMW didn’t tinker with the gorgeous 8 Series by going overboard with design changes. We likey!

BMW has taken the wraps off the facelifted 8 Series, and fortunately, the 2022 coupe is as good-looking as ever with no OTT design changes.

As part of the facelift, the 8 Series now gets new 20-inch alloy wheels, eight colour options (four metallic and as many matte finishes), a new splitter on the front bumper (and the rear bumper gets a diffuser), and an illuminated kidney grille.

Inside, BMW’s larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system (up from 10.25-inches) makes its presence felt in the 8. Another change is the new carbon fibre-finished sports front seats, which look drop-dead gorgeous. But they have that unnecessary bit of carbon fibre between the legs, so men, please watch out while stepping in and out to avoid the oohs and aahs.

Powertrains are market-specific, and the choices include six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines and the fantastic twin-turbo V8. In India, the pre-facelift 8 Series is powered by a 340PS 3-litre turbo-petrol (as the base option) and a 600PS 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol, both paired with an 8-speed automatic. We locked in our bossman in the rear seats of the M8 two-door coupe, and he came away quite impressed

Like before, the facelifted 8 Series is available as a two- and four- door coupe and a convertible. In India, the standard car is a four-door coupe, while the M8 is an exclusive 2-door.

The facelifted 8 Series will renew its rivalry with the Porsche Panamera, Mercedes-AMG GT 4 door coupe, and the Audi RS7 Sportback.
