The facelifted BMW X3, which made its global debut in June 2021, is likely to be the first launch from the Bavarian carmaker in 2022. Select dealerships are now accepting bookings for the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC competitor and we have been told it’s expected to be launched in January.
Considering that this is an LCI (BMW’s speak for facelift) and not a generation update, the changes are largely cosmetic and tricky to spot. The grille is now connected and the inserts are ever-so-slightly different, while the sharper headlamps and tail lamps do a better job of freshening things up. Then there’s the bumpers that’s more sportier now, while the new alloy wheels round off the design updates.
You’ll need to spot the differences on the inside as updates are minimal such as the new gear lever, and redesigned climate control knobs and AC vents. Then there’s the digital driver’s display, which is in tune with other BMW models like the facelifted 5 Series. Internationally, you can also update the infotainment system to a larger 12.3-inch unit.

The powertrain options are likely to be carried forward from the current model. The existing X3 gets 252PS 2-litre turbo-petrol and 190PS 2-litre diesel engines, both driving all four wheels via the snappy 8-speed torque converter automatic.
BMW is likely to price the facelifted X3 at a premium over the current SUV that starts from Rs 57.9 lakh (ex-showroom pan India). It will rekindle its rivalry with the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Volvo XC60, and the recently launched facelifted Audi Q5.
