After being globally unveiled last year, the fifth-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W206) is all set to be launched in India. The new ‘baby S-Class’ comes with sleeker looks, more tech and a more efficient heart on board. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2022 C-Class ahead of its launch on May 10.
A generation update, comes with an increase in dimensions for the 2022 C-Class. The saloon is 65mm longer and 10mm wider, with a 25mm longer wheelbase than before. This also translates to the rear seat experience, as 21mm of the 25mm extra wheelbase has been added between the front and rear seats.
Mercedes has gone for evolution over revolution with regard to the C-Class’ design as it still looks like a traditional ‘C’ with that familiar silhouette. Nonetheless, the styling is more modern with sharper headlights with LED DRLs, a new front grille with a three-pointed star mesh, new two-piece tail lamps at the rear, as well as cleaner lines and curves.
Stepping inside, one notices the thoroughly modern cabin that has a clean and minimalistic layout similar to its more premium sibling, the S-Class. It will also get a decent step up in tech, with features like a 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system (an optional feature in markets abroad), and a larger 12.3-inch digital cluster.
The new C-Class will get engines that are a bit kinder to mother nature. We’re getting a petrol (C 200) as well as two diesel (C 220d and C 300d) engine options. They get assistance from a 48-volt mild-hybrid system as standard and are paired with an electric motor (with rated output at 20PS and 200Nm) for added performance and improved efficiency.
