August 2024 has been reasonably good for the Indian automobile industry where we got new launches like the Mahindra Thar Roxx and the Tata Curvv, but the sector also saw a 3.3 percent increase in sales compared to July 2024. While it is way too early to say if these new launches are driving the sales growth, there is potential for further growth with the festive season around the corner.
With that being said, let's take a look at the ten best-selling cars in India in August 2024.

Topping the August 2024 sales chart is the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, with 19,190 units delivered in the month. In terms of sales, it regularly outperforms its competitors like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and even the recently launched Mahindra XUV 3XO. Compared to August 2023, the Brezza saw a sales growth of around 32 percent and also recorded a month-on-month sales growth of approximately 31 percent.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is powered by a 103 PS/137 Nm 1.5-litre petrol engine, paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It can also be configured with a factory-fitted CNG kit that reduces power output to 88 PS and 121.5 Nm. Transmission option for CNG-equipped variants is limited to 5-speed manual gearbox only.
In terms of features, the Brezza gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker Arkamys-tuned sound system, a single-pane sunroof, wireless phone charging, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a heads-up display. Safety is taken care of with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-hold assist, and a 360-degree camera.
One of the most popular product for fleet operators, the Maruti Ertiga, takes the second spot on the list. Though available with only a single powertrain option, the MPV is also favoured by buyers with large families in our country due to its practical cabin and seven-seating layout. In August 2024, Maruti sold 18,580 units of the Ertiga, which is a whopping 51 percent growth in year-on-year sales and an 18 percent growth compared to July 2024 sales.

The list of best-selling cars for the month is incomplete without the Hyundai Creta, and the 2024 facelift model continues to uphold its popularity. Recently, Hyundai also launched the Knight Edition of the compact SUV, with prices starting from Rs 14.51 lakh (ex-showroom). The Creta Knight Edition features cosmetic updates over the standard model, including all-black treatment on the exterior as well as in the interior.
Compared to the previous year, the Creta has seen a 21 percent growth in sales, but a decline of around 3 percent in month-on-month sales.

As for the features, the Creta comes equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, dual-zone automatic AC, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, and powered driver’s seat. Safety features include ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, six airbags, a 360-degree camera with parking sensors, and ADAS.
Compared to the July 2024 sales, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has dropped one position in August 2024. Maruti sold 16,450 units in August, up from 16,191 unit sales in July. It also saw a 6 percent growth in sales compared to August 2023. Its CNG-equipped variants are a popular choice amongst buyers and can be considered a prime reason for it being a one of the best sellers every month.

In August 2024, Tata sold 15,643 units of the Punch, which also includes the sales of the Punch EV. As the only micro-SUV on the list, it saw an 8 percent year-on-year sales growth but did not surpass the 16,121 units sold in July 2024, witnessing a decline of around 3 percent.

In terms of features it gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 6-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, connected car tech, a single-pane sunroof, and cruise control. Safety is taken care of with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, a reverse parking camera with sensors, and electronic stability control.
The Punch EV features additional equipment like a 10.2-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and ventilated seats.
As for the Punch EV, it is offered with two battery pack options: a 25 kWh and a 35 kWh battery pack. Its powertrain specifications are detailed below:
25 kWh (82 PS/ 114 Nm) / Range: 315 km
35 kWh (122 PS/ 190 Nm) / Range: 421 km
The Punch EV packs more features than its ICE-powered counterpart, which includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, and a sunroof.
Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a 360-degree camera.
Known for its rugged styling and road presence, the Mahindra Scorpio takes sixth place on the August 2024 sales chart. It moved up two positions from eighth place in July 2024, with sales of 13,787 units in August 2024. Which is a growth of 39 percent in terms of year-on-year sales and approximately 13 percent in month-on-month sales. These numbers are inclusive of both Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N.
Price Range: Rs 13.62 lakh to Rs 17.42 lakh (Scorpio Classic) / Rs 13.85 lakh to Rs 24.64 lakh (Scorpio N)

Mahindra offers the Scorpio Classic with a 132 PS/ 300 Nm 2.2-litre diesel engine, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. In terms of features it gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system (no Android Auto / Apple CarPlay), cruise control, automatic climate control, dual front airbags, and rear parking sensors.
In contrast, the Scorpio N is available with a 2.2-litre diesel engine in two tunes - 132 PS/ 300 Nm or 175 PS/ up to 400 Nm. The Scorpio N is also available with a 203 PS / up to 380 Nm 2-litre turbo-petrol engine. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AT for both powertrain choices.
The Scorpio N comes equipped with features such as a 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12-speaker Sony sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and wireless phone charging. On the safety front it gets up to six airbags, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill hold assist.
Staying among the top performers, the Maruti Suzuki Swift comes in at seventh place in August 2024 sales chart. The compact hatchback from Maruti saw a 31 percent decline when compared to August 2023 numbers and a 24 percent drop from July 2024 sales numbers.

The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is offered with a single 82 PS/112 Nm 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine choice, which can be paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. In the features department it gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, a 6-speaker Arkamys-tuned sound system, rear AC vents, and cruise control.

Although making a comeback in the top 10, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno has seen a 33 percent decline in year-on-year sales. However, Maruti delivered 3,176 more units of the premium hatchback in August 2024 in contrast to 9,309 units sold in July 2024.

You can also configure it with a factory-fitted CNG kit that reduces power output to 77.5 PS/98.5 Nm and is available only with a 5-speed manual.
Feature-wise, it gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker audio system, a heads-up display, cruise control, and automatic climate control.
Safety is taken care of with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), and a 360-degree camera.
Coming right after the Baleno is the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which recorded a modest 2 percent sales growth compared to August 2023. It however saw a 13 percent increase in month-on-month sales. The crossover from Maruti falls in the same category as the subcompact SUVs like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.

You can also configure it with a factory-fitted CNG kit that reduces power output to 77.5 PS/98.5 Nm and is available only with a 5-speed manual.
The Fronx comes equipped with features such as a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker audio system, a wireless phone charger, cruise control, keyless entry with push button start/stop and automatic climate control.
On the safety front it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), and a 360-degree camera.
Last but not least is the Tata Nexon, which registered a 53 percent growth in year-on-year sales with 12,289 units sold in August 2024. However, Tata sold 1,613 fewer units compared to the 13,902 units sold in July 2024. Do note that these figures also include sales of the Nexon EV.
