The Citroen Basalt is scheduled to debut in the Indian market on August 2, 2024. It will be an SUV-coupe directly competing against the Tata Curvv in India. Since the Basalt is based on the existing C3 Aircross compact SUV, we decided to compare the designs of both these Citroen offerings.
Both the Citroen Basalt and C3 Aircross look nearly identical with their split grille setup and V-shaped LED DRLs. They share an identical grille design, while the fog lamps are positioned on the bumper. Both cars also get a silver skid plate on the front bumper.
The difference between both cars becomes significant when viewed from the sides. The Basalt features a coupe roofline, whereas the C3 Aircross has a traditional SUV silhouette, thanks to the upright rear-end. The alloy wheels on the Basalt are blacked out, while on the C3 Aircross they are finished in dual-tone. The Basalt has gloss black cladding around the wheel arches, whereas the C3 Aircross has matte black cladding. However, both cars feature flap-style door handles.

At the rear, the Basalt features a sleeker wraparound LED tail light design, while the C3 Aircross has C-shaped LED tail lights connected by a black element. Both the Basalt and C3 Aircross have black-finished bumpers and silver skid plates.
Though Citroen hasn’t completely unveiled the dashboard of the Basalt, it is likely to be similar to that of the C3 Aircross. Based on the recent teasers, the Basalt will get white seat upholstery. Also, the Basalt is expected to be more feature-rich than the C3 Aircross, and it will include amenities like automatic AC, along with a 10.2-inch touchscreen, and a 7-inch fully digital driver’s display. It is also expected to get cruise control, a wireless phone charger, push-button start/stop, and keyless entry. Its safety kit could include 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
The Basalt will likely use the same turbo-petrol engine used on the C3 Aircross:
Engine |
1.2-litre turbo-petrol |
Power |
110 PS |
Torque |
Up to 205 Nm |
Transmission |
6-speed MT, 6-speed AT |
AT: Torque Converter Automatic
The Citroen Basalt is expected to be priced from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a direct rival to the Tata Curvv. It can also be regarded as a stylish alternative to the compact SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, and Honda Elevate.
