Royal Enfield has been making headlines lately, especially for all that the veteran bikemaker has in the pipeline. And one of its upcoming bikes, the Royal Enfield Scram 450, has been spied abroad, and here are the clearest set of visuals of the bike yet.
Let us just say it looks like a stark departure from signature Enfield work. It looks more premium, more modern and a whole lot sleeker. The Scram 450 will be a road-friendly iteration of the Himalayan 450, and gets a single- piece seat and smaller wheels. At a glance, one would also argue that the Scram 450’s silhouette resembles the naked bikes from the early 2000s similar to the Honda Hornet 600.
It features a circular LED headlight with LED turn indicators, and the taillight – an integrated unit on the rear indicators – is also borrowed from the Himalayan 450.
The latest images give us the clearest visual of the new 450cc, liquid-cooled engine that Enfield is developing – and oh boy! Does it look enticing. Both the Himalayan 450 and Scram 450 will feature this powertrain, which is expected to belt out figures north of 40PS. This would really help Royal Enfield compete with its rivals better.
You can also see the coolant reservoir which will be covered by the side panel, and the footpeg position seems pretty rear set for a Royal Enfield bike. This, coupled with the wide, easy-to-reach handlebar, ensures an upright riding stance. Royal Enfield also seems to be experimenting with the rear view mirror as it is mounted on what looks like an aluminium stalk. There’s no instrument cluster but there are two devices mounted on the sleek fuel tank, likely to be data-logging equipment.
While the Himalayan 450 runs a USD fork, the Scram 450 can be seen suspended on a conventional telescopic fork. Unlike the current-gen Himalayan, the Scram 450 comes with a conventional monoshock without any linkages. The bike also gets smaller (likely 17-inch units) alloy wheels with road-biased tyres, seemingly all-new units from Ceat. This would also result in the Scram 450 being more affordable than its off-road sibling.
Interestingly, Royal Enfield is also working on a more hardcore version of the Scram likely to be called the Scrambler 450. You can head here to find out all about it. The veteran bikemaker will also be launching multiple bikes based on its 450cc platform, check it out here. As for the Scram 450, it is expected to debut in India in the second half of 2023 with an expected price tag of Rs 2.6 lakh (ex-showroom).
