India is an extremely challenging market for motorcycle manufacturers and that is because of the sheer variety we have. And by variety, we mean not only terrains, but also riders. Inexperienced beginner riders who can barely modulate a clutch, many levels of intermediary riders and extremely experienced riders who’ve been riding for ages, all of them coexist in this unique market. And that is exactly why instead of extreme, committed bikes, versatile ones that can pretty much do it all are in some ways quite perfect. And that’s where a bike like the Hero Mavrick 440 comes in. We first rode it a couple of months ago and were genuinely impressed by how the Mavrick 440 is actually quite the perfect fit for every rider.
Torquey engines are always versatile and lovely to use. The sheer amount of grunt in the lower revs mean new riders can chug along at low speeds easily. And the moment experienced riders start wringing the throttle aggressively, all that torque shows that the bike can really move along rapidly. And that’s exactly what the Mavrick’s TorqX engine can do. With a colossal 36Nm available from as low as 4000rpm, newer riders can just stick it in any gear at any speeds and the Mavrick will chug along very easily.
But the experienced riders who like riding hard will quite enjoy how quick the Mavrick 440 can actually be when you start being generous with your right hand. Not only that, the Mavrick 440s’s engine also feels very composed and refined even when you start redlining it out.
Xtreme 160R 4V, XPulse 200 4V and even the new Karizma XMR, these are 3 modern day examples of Hero absolutely nailing suspensions of its recent bikes. And in that aspect, the Mavrick is very similar. It is plush and glides on bad roads and that’s a big blessing on roads like ours. Be it steep speedbreakers or potholes that resemble the moon’s craters, it’s surprising how comfortable the Mavrick 440 is, especially for a roadster. And that plush ride quality is applicable for when you have a pillion too.
So that is something that newer riders will enjoy. But what’s incredible is how Hero has struck almost the perfect balance. When you start pushing the bike and riding it hard, that very plush and soft suspension somehow doesn’t feel out of place. The bike doesn’t wallow or feel bouncy and you will actually end up carrying some pretty high speeds through a set of corners. So again, this is something that newer riders will appreciate and experienced riders will love.
Most modern day TFTs are a bit too complicated while analogue consoles feel a bit too dated. So what do you do? You give a well laid-out LCD console that’s extremely easy to use and toggle through, ensuring it doesn’t get too complicated. But at the same time, it has enough features for the youngsters to brag about in their group of friends. So again Hero has managed to strike a very good balance and give the riders the best of both the worlds, something that truly is the perfect fit for every rider.
Hero bikes and good prices are a match made in heaven. And value for money is a thing that every kind of rider will absolutely love. With its prices beginning from Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Mavrick 440 takes the value for money quotient to a different level altogether. Eventually, the Mavrick is a bike that every kind of rider will enjoy every time they swing their leg over it.
