Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles was resurrected by Classic Legends in December 2018, with quite a lot of fanfare. Quite understandably, with the legacy that the brand carries, especially in the sporty roadster segment of the past. To that end, many Jawa aficionados were awaiting its return and this was like a dream come true for them.
While the new Jawas and Yezdis surely managed to appease the enthusiasts with the bikes on offer, there were some teething issues, as you would have with any completely new brand. The service network wasn’t as well spread out as the enthusiasts would have wanted. There were also some gaps in the spare parts supply chain that needed to be plugged for a more seamless experience. And Jawa Yezdi has been working on it ever since then to drastically reduce customers’ woes with the service experience.
Just to give you a perspective, the top 5 states with the most Jawa Yezdi service centres are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Telangana, in that order. But to complete the picture, the brand has a presence in all the Indian states. Yet, they are still working on expanding this network to make Jawa and Yezdi more accessible and closer to all its customers in India. Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles’ target is to grow the service network. Not just that, it has also identified geographical hotspots where it needs to focus its resources, and has either already put in touch points or is in the process of doing the same. At the same time, it’s also continuously training the service centre personnel to help them keep the Jawa and Yezdi owners and riders happy with their bikes.
On that note, Jawa Yezdi has also organised service camps in over 10 cities, to address the bike-related concerns from the riders and rectify them. This has also helped Jawa and Yezdi get a more intimate feedback from its customers, and what they are looking for, which has further helped the brand improve its service quality.
One of the biggest concerns any rider has, is the availability of spares in case something goes wrong, and to that end, Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles has increased its spare parts warehouses and improved its supply chain to reduce the waiting time for parts. On the other hand, this also helps service centres in maintaining an optimum spare parts inventory and thus reducing their costs, which can directly affect the service costs.
Jawa Yezdi has also made spares more accessible by launching an online platform where customers can directly buy spare parts. And if you are one of those who like to work on your own bike, Jawa Yezdi has you covered with detailed service manuals and guides, so you can better enjoy your bikes. The brand has also held workshops and events in the past, to help riders understand their beloved Jawa & Yezdi bikes.
Another issue that can affect the ownership is counterfeit parts. Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles tells us that it is actively working on protecting its customers from counterfeit parts. They have even partnered with authorities to prevent circulation of such parts. Apart from that, it has implemented holographic stickers and QR codes to help customers verify the authenticity of the parts they buy.
Another aspect to a good service experience is the time a bike spends at the service centre, especially for regular, periodic service. The average waiting time during peak hours is 24 hours. It is also ensuring the service centres have enough manpower and resources to reduce the service time. Simultaneously, it is also listening to their customers about the ground reality and making necessary optimisations.
All this while, Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles’ growth plans include increasing the number of service centres in India by at least 30% annually. This also includes opening new service centres in tier-2 and tier-3 cities to increase the accessibility. New technologies are being introduced to offer diagnostic and support services as well. Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles plan to open 200 dealerships every year in India. Right now, they have 450 dealerships, which will be expanded to 600 by March 2025.
While Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles aims to maintain its iconic heritage and value, it is embracing modern methods to help new enthusiasts enjoy the bikes they had previously only dreamt about.
