Hyundai India has announced that the Exter SUV has racked up over 50,000 bookings since pre-launch bookings began on May 08. The Korean carmaker also added that 75 percent of customers picked up the sunroof variants, available in the top three trims, while one-third of them opted for the AMT model. For reference, the Exter is available in five broad trims: EX, S, SX, SX (O) and SX (O) Connect.
The Exter is Hyundai’s answer to the extremely popular Tata Punch, which just received updates and a CNG powertrain. In fact, Hyundai says that the Exter got over 40,000 bookings within 30 days of its launch. The Exter is the carmaker’s entry-level SUV, and slots below the Venue in its lineup.
Being a Hyundai, the Exter comes loaded to the gills with features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a single-pane sunroof, a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, and a sunroof. Passenger safety is taken care of by six airbags (standard), electronic stability control, hill hold assist, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The Hyundai Exter gets the carmaker’s 83PS 1.2-litre petrol engine, teamed with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. Customers can also opt for a CNG kit with the same, though that can be had with only the stick shifter. To know our impressions of the Hyundai Exter, check out our in-depth first drive review.
Prices of the Exter range from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (introductory ex-showroom) and you can take a look at its variant-wise prices in our launch story. Apart from the Punch, the Hyundai Exter goes up against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis as well as some variants of the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
