And the Hyundai Exter provides a wealth of features, making it one of the loaded cars you can buy in the segment. Not only these features make your commute enjoyable but also make long drivers truly memorable. In this article, we will tell you why the Exter should be top of your mind when you think about an SUV which is brimmed with all the features you would need.
The projector headlights on the Exter provide better illumination than conventional light bulb units, while the H-shaped LED daytime driving lights provide a distinct look. The auto headlights automatically turn on at sunset or when there is insufficient light, such as while going through a tunnel. Then, the escort function keeps the headlights on for sometime to keep your path illuminated.
This feature of the outside door-view mirrors enables you to conveniently adjust them with a press of a button. One could fold or open them with the press of a button, making it convenient while driving through jam packed lanes. Also, the Exter has this feature with auto fold functionality, which basically opens or closes the ORVM while unlocking or locking the car.
This is definitely a feature that has now become more of a common sight on most cars. But the Exter has a party trick up its sleeve. Well, this is not just a digital display showing readouts but this also allows users to change languages. It supports as many as 12 Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, and Bengali.
The touchscreen infotainment is not only a way to access vehicle related information but also get entertained. It allows you to connect your smartphone via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, use maps to explore various places, and access numerous features via voice assistant. In fact, Hyundai offers 16 free map updates in 8 years for the in-built navigation system.
The ambient sounds of nature is a feature part of the infotainment system but needs a separate mention as it comprises 7 customised sound profiles for various moods and situations. So if you want some music to soothe you after a busy day of work, the Hyundai Exter has you covered on that front.
The popular voice assistant is available on the Exter, offering a Home-to-Car function. This enables you to control numerous features of the car or check the vehicle’s status from the comfort of your home using any Amazon Alexa device.

You can also check the status of your vehicle or operate certain features such as starting up the vehicle, pre-cooling the car from your phone or if you are wearing a compatible smartwatch running on iOS or Android. The connected car tech in the Exter will also remind you of service intervals and will pull up the closest Hyundai showrooms where you can get your car serviced.
Moreover, the Exter gets an IRVM with integrated telematic switches, such as SOS, roadside assistance, and Bluelink. With this, you can send a distress signal to emergency services with a press of a switch.
The Exter further benefits from a voice-enabled electric sunroof not only letting in ample light but also the cold breeze, especially on pleasant winter days. Alongside the traditional switch, you can request the voice assistant to open or close the sunroof, which also supports sunroof.
For drivers who enjoy driving in ghats or hairpin bends, Hyundai has bestowed the Exter with paddle shifters and is the first one to do so for a car with an AMT. They let you take control of the transmission to shift gear manually without taking your hands off the steering wheel. This feature is massive fun, especially if you enjoy driving.
There is cruise Control which lets you set the preset speed and lets you rest your right foot when driving on a stretch of expressway. Then, there is the keyless entry with engine start/stop button, so you can chuck your key in your pocket or handbag instead of using it to turn on or off the Exter. And if you need to charge your phone, this SUV offers a wireless phone charger and in case the phone does not support wireless charging, there is a USB Type-C socket.
And there is even more. Hyundai has outfitted the Exter with 6 airbags as standard on all variants for safety of all the passengers in case of a crash, while a dashcam with dual camera that not only records the world outside while you are in the car but also what is happening inside.
Further, the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) shows you tyre pressure even when you are on the move. Then, while the ABS prevents wheels of the vehicle from locking on road surfaces with less grip, EBD automatically varies the braking force applied to each car's wheel.
In addition, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is another common safety feature cars come equipped with these days. The system continuously monitors the vehicles’s speed, steering input, braking force, and other factors and applies preventive power or braking when necessary. The rearview camera with parking sensors is a boon when you are parking in tight spots or reversing into a blind spot. While the rearview camera shows a live feed the sensors warn you with varying range of sound to alert about any object while reversing.
Vehicle stability management reduces loss of control by adjusting power and applying pressure on brakes. Further, hill start control prevents the car from going backwards on a steep slope when a car is stationary.
The Exter has a unique and modern design that draws inspiration from its elder siblings, featuring distinct H-pattern lights, chunky cladding, and high-set stance. On the other hand, the upmarket cabin boasts a semi leatherette upholstery, rear air-con vents, footwell lighting, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear stick, and metal pedals. Meanwhile, it comes powered by a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers 83 PS and 114 Nm. This motor is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT transmission. Plus, there is also an option of a CNG version with a unique dual-cylinder system. that provides lots of space for your luggage.
