The all-new Jawa 42 FJ has been launched in India, starting at Rs 1,99,142 (ex-showroom Delhi). The new 42 FJ comes with sportier looks, a bigger 334cc engine and a lot more, over the standard Jawa 42. Here’s our detailed analysis:
The new Jawa 42 FJ has a neo-retro roadster avatar. It has sportier looks, new graphics and a new fuel tank design as well. Whereas, the standard Jawa 42 sports a more retro roadster design and less of the modern or sporty design elements. It gets a different and simpler-looking fuel tank.
Both bikes get a round LED headlight, round indicators, and flat, single-piece seat telescopic fork at the front, however, all these units on the FJ look different and have a more modern touch as compared to the standard Jawa 42. Additionally, both the bikes get similar-looking rear designs but the FJ gets upswept dual exhausts.
The Jawa 42 is available in 13 colour options: Vega White, Voyager Red, Asteroid Grey, Odyssey Black, Sirius White Matte, Nebula Blue, Celestial Copper Matte, Orion Red Matte, All Star Black Matte, Infinity Black Matte, Cosmic Carbon, Starship Blue, Cosmic Rock and Celestial Copper Matte DT.
Whereas, the 42 FJ comes in five colours: Aurora Green Matte Spoke, Cosmo Blue Matte, Mystique Copper, Deep Black Matte Red Clad and Deep Black Matte Black Clad.
The prices for the Jawa 42 start from Rs 1,72,942 and go up to Rs 1,98,142. The Jawa 42 FJ is priced at Rs 1,99,142, which is Rs 26,200 more, and goes up to Rs 2,20,142 (all prices ex-showroom).
The new Jawa 42 FJ is powered by the same 334cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder Alpha2 engine from the recently updated Jawa 350 and the Yezdi Adventure, which produces a peak output of 29.2PS and 29.6Nm, paired with a six-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch.

The standard Jawa 42, on the other hand, is equipped with a smaller 294cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, J-Panther engine that makes 27.32PS and 26.84Nm which is 1.88PS and 2.76Nm less than the FJ. It is also paired with a six-speed transmission but misses out on slip-and-assist clutch.
The Jawa 42 FJ is equipped with LED lighting all around. It gets a full-LCD instrument console that shows the speedometer, odometer, trip meter, fuel level, clock and other telltale lights. It also has a USB charging port for added convenience.
The Jawa 42 gets a halogen headlight along with bulb-type tail light and indicators. It also has a hazard light feature. The base and mid-variants come with a semi-digital instrument cluster with a digital inset. The analogue part includes a speedometer, and fuel gauge and the digital inset displays the odometer and trip meters. The higher variants feature a full LCD instrument cluster. Both the bikes lack smartphone connectivity, even as an optional feature.
Both Jawa 42 FJ and 42 have a double-cradle frame. They are equipped with a telescopic fork, and the 42 gets gas-charged preload-adjustable twin rear shocks while the 42 FJ has 5-step reload-adjustable twin shocks. The 42 FJ has a bigger 320mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes, but the 42 has a smaller 280mm front and 240 rear discs, both have dual-channel ABS as standard.
Both bikes ride on 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke/alloy wheels. The 42 gets 90-section front and 120-section rear tyres. Whereas, the 42 FJ has wider 100-section front and 140-section rear tyres. The standard Jawa 42 gets a 1369mm wheelbase, 788mm seat height and a 13.2-litre fuel tank. The 42 FJ, has a 71mm longer wheelbase at 1440mm and a 2mm higher seat height at 790mm, however, it has a smaller 12-litre fuel tank. While Jawa 42 FJ have a kerb weight of 184kg, the 42 weighs 182 to 184kg, depending on the variant.
If you are looking to buy a calm retro roadster within the budget, then the standard Jawa 42 makes sense for you. However, if you like neo-retro roadsters with a sportier look and want more performance out of your bike, then the Jawa 42 FJ is worth considering, but it is also significantly costlier than the standard 42.
