With the new discounts, does it make sense to get a Ninja 300 over the Apache RR 310?

Kawasaki Ninja 300 vs TVS Apache RR 310

Kawasaki India had recently announced a big discount on the Kawasaki Ninja 300. Now the supersport is Rs 30,000 cheaper than before, bringing its price down to Rs 3,13,000 (ex-showroom). This has surely made the bike a lot more competitive when compared to its main rival, the TVS Apache RR 310.

In this image comparison, we will be going over all the major differences between the two bikes. We will also be giving you a definite answer, as to which one you should get.

Design

When it comes to looks, there’s no doubt who the winner actually is. The TVS Apache RR 310 looks much more modern as compared to the Ninja 300, which now feels quite dated. The RR 310 manages to stand out quite a bit, with its fairing mounted winglets and the transparent clutch cover. The Apache just manages to look like a more premium bike.

The Kawasaki Ninja 300 has remained the same over the years, and doesn’t inspire the kind of awe that the Apache RR 310 is able to. The bike has a typical supersport design and styling, with the iconic Kawasaki green colour scheme and liveries. But this design has become a bit dated and doesn’t justify the relatively higher price. That said, Kawasaki India has been periodically refreshing its styling with new graphics and paint schemes.

Engine & Performance

The Kawasaki Ninja 300 is powered by a 296cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine which outputs 39PS at 11,000rpm and 26.1Nm at 10,000rpm. The Apache RR 310, on the other hand, is powered by a 312cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine which offers 38PS at 9,800rpm and 29Nm at 7,900rpm.

Although both are somewhat equal in terms of performance, the rev range at which the power is produced makes a bit of difference. The Ninja 300’s engine is a lot more rev happy than the RR 310’s which means the power is produced at the higher rpm range.

This will appeal to some riders who are looking for a bike that offers better performance at higher rev ranges. Whereas the Apache RR 310 will be more appreciated by riders who want all the power and torque available sooner.

Underpinnings

The TVS Apache RR 310 offers a lot more in terms of underpinnings. It gets gold finished inverted fork and monoshock, with preload and rebound adjustability. The Ninja 300, on the other hand, offers a conventional telescopic fork and monoshock. The monoshock offers 5-way adjustability.

The fully adjustable nature of the Apache RR 310’s suspension will allow riders to fine tune the suspension settings to their liking. For example, it will be easier to tune the suspension to be a bit more plush, allowing riders to handle bad roads better. At the same time, the suspension can also be tuned to be stiffer making the bike more capable on track.

The Ninja 300’s suspension is slightly towards the stiffer side, but it is good enough to handle bad patches of road. The lack of adjustability makes is bit of a letdown, but overall the suspension setup is decent.

Another advantage the TVS Apache RR 310 has over the Ninja 300 is the larger disc brakes. The RR 310 offers a 300mm petal disc at the front and a 240mm petal disc at the rear. The Ninja 300 on the other hand has a smaller 290mm front and 220mm rear petal disc setup. The larger disc sizes offer better braking performance, with increased stopping power and heat dissipation.

Features

This is another department where the TVS Apache RR 310 leaves the Ninja 300 far behind. The bike has a lot to offer including riding modes, a quick shifter and a lot of new electronic riding aids including traction control, cornering ABS and even cruise control. The list of features is too vast to list out here.

The bike also offers useful bits such as a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) as well. That said, to unlock the full potential of the bike customers will have to get the two optional packs that are offered. Here’s a brief breakdown of their prices:

Pack

Features offered

Price

Dynamic Kit

TPMS and adjustable suspension

Rs 18,000

Dynamic Pro Kit

Traction control, cornering ABS, cruise control, wheelie control and more

Rs 16,000

The Ninja 300 is a bit more plain when it comes to features. The bike only has a simple semi-digital instrument console along with dual-channel ABS and a slipper clutch on offer.

Which Bike Should You Buy?

The Ninja 300 with the new year discount is now priced at Rs 3,13,000 (ex-showroom). Whereas the TVS Apache RR 310 starts at a price of Rs 2,75,000 (ex-showroom). If you are willing to spend extra to unlock the full potential of the Apache RR 310, with the two kits you will be paying around Rs 3,09,000 (ex-showroom).

With the kind of features the two kits have to offer, The TVS Apache RR 310 is definitely the value for money proposition here. That said, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 is still a bike worth considering. The bike makes a lot of sense if you are a Kawasaki fan who really appreciates the refined engine and rev happy nature that is typical of Kawasaki bikes.
