The recently unveiled Kia Carens can be pre-booked at select dealerships for a token amount of Rs 25,000. The so-called ‘Recreational Vehicle’ or ‘RV’ will be Kia’s fourth model in India and is expected to be launched early next year.
Kia is likely to offer the Carens in four broad trims: Premium, Prestige, Luxury, and Luxury Plus. The upcoming people-mover can be had either as a 6-seater with captain seats or a 7-seater with bench seats for middle-row occupants. Kia claims focus has been given to third-row occupants for better comfort.
In terms of features, the Carens will get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, digital driver’s display (similar to i20), wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a single-pane sunroof, automatic climate control, roof-mounted AC vents, electronic tumble for captain seats, and a Bose sound system.
Standard safety features on board include six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill hold/descent control. Top-spec trims are also likely to get a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, and front parking sensors.

Kia has confirmed that the Carens will get a 7-speed DCT and 6-speed torque converter automatic. So this could mean that the people-mover should get the 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and 115PS 1.5-litre diesel engine options. A 6-speed manual is likely to be on offer as well while the 115PS 1.5-litre petrol engine could serve as a base option.
The Carens is likely to be priced from Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in contention with the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and Mahindra XUV700. It will also be a more premium alternative against the Maruti Suzuki XL6.
