We recently came across new spy shots of the upcoming KTM 390 SMC R, a supermoto offering from the Austrian manufacturer based on the 2024 KTM 390 Duke. The bike is set to be unveiled at EICMA 2024 in Milan Italy. Here’s everything you need to know.
The KTM 390 SMC R features a similar design language as the upcoming KTM 390 Enduro R, with the raised front fender, sleek dirt bike like profile and the long single piece seat. What sets this bike apart is the use of smaller 17-inch alloy wheels instead of the large spoke wheel setup which we have seen on the Enduro. The bike overall looks quite good and KTM has definitely got the supermoto styling right.
Coming to the engine, the 390 SMC R will feature the same 399cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder LC4c engine that we have seen on the new KTM 390 Duke. The engine produces 46PS at 8,500rpm and 39Nm at 6,500rpm. But we expect it to come with a different tuning to suit the supermoto role.
Underpinnings wise, the bike appears to be built on the same trellis frame as the 390 Enduro R. The suspension setup consists of a long travel fork and a monoshock. It gets disc brakes at both the ends. The bike could offer features such as riding modes, traction control, supermoto ABS and also launch control, similar to what the 390 Duke offers.
Overall, the KTM 390 SMC R looks quite good and would make for an accessible entry-level supermoto offering in the international market. That said, it is unlikely that the bike will be launched in India, even though there are good chances it will be made in India at Bajaj’s Chakan facility, alongside the KTM 390 Duke. KTM is currently planning on unveiling it along with the upcoming 2024 KTM 390 Adventure, KTM 390 Enduro and several other offerings at EICMA 2024. Here’s what we will see at EICMA this year.
In other news, KTM has updated the 200 Duke for 2024 and now the bike gets the same instrument console as the KTM 390 Duke. The new console is a 5-inch TFT display which brings many new features to the bike.
