We contacted an official dealer who confirmed the arrival of KTM big bikes around the end of year or early next year. However they did not mention the models exactly, understandably so, and we think these three bikes are coming to India and here's why:
KTM might launch the 890 Adventure and the 890 Adventure R in India soon. If you currently own a 390 Adventure and wish to own a bigger KTM, the 890 Adventure and 890 Adventure R will be your options from the brand. After the recent rise in popularity in the mid-size motorcycle segment, these make the most sense for KTM to launch in India.
The 890 Adventure and the 890 Adventure R are powered by the same 889cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine which makes 105PS and 100Nm, and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The difference between the two bikes is that the R model gets a single-piece motocross style seat, better suspension at both ends with longer wheel travel, off-road focused tyres, and a tweaked styling.
The KTM 890 Duke R, is powered by the same 889cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine as the 890 Adventure but makes 121PS and 99Nm. The streetfighter aims to take on the popular Kawasaki Z900 in India. Just like the ADVs, those who want to upgrade from the 390 Duke have to look to other brands’ naked bikes. With the launch of the 890 Duke in India, KTM can aim to keep customers within the brand family.
With the recent rise in popularity in offroading and introduction of competitions such as the Indian Supercross Racing League, KTM could bring in the 4-stroke 450cc and the 2-stroke 250cc enduro bikes in India. These bikes will purely be offroad focused and most likely won’t be road legal.
All the models mentioned above will most likely arrive on Indian shores via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route, so the prices will be high. The standard 890 Adventure is expected to be priced around Rs 19 lakh, while the 890 Adventure R around Rs 22 lakh. The KTM 890 Duke R could be priced around Rs 15 lakh. All prices ex-showroom. The bikes are expected to launch around the end of the year or early next year.
