Audi's yearly special edition launch for the Q5 SUV is here. Coming off the back of last year’s special edition, this one embraces a blacked-out treatment with the ‘Black Styling Package Plus’, which builds on the SUV’s top-spec Technology trim. It is offered in limited numbers for a limited period and here’s what you need to know about it:
Audi has priced this limited-run special edition Q5 at Rs 69.72 lakh (ex-showroom). It is based on the top-spec Technology trim of the SUV, which is priced at Rs 68.22 lakh, so the special edition only carries a premium of Rs 1.5 lakh. Not too steep for a limited-run edition now, is it?

No changes to the design elements and body contours for this special edition, but it has been given cosmetic enhancements, like the blacked-out styling package which even covers the grille, Audi badge, and roof rails. The exclusive black hue used is called the Mythos Black, which is only contrasted by the silver alloy wheels and the Quattro badging above the side sill.
The cabin layout is unchanged and is finished in Okapi Brown hue. Unlike newer Audis, the 10.1-inch infotainment screen juts out of the dashboard, just above the central AC vents. You get a rather chunky central console with physical dials and buttons for various HVAC controls.

The three- spoke steering wheel gets a fully digital 12.3-inch driver’s display just behind it and being based on a top-spec trim, this special edition SUV packs all the bells and whistles you’d want and need. The list includes a panoramic sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, a 19-speaker B&O Premium Sound System, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, powered driver seat with memory function, and wireless phone charging. Its safety kit comprises eight airbags, ABS with EBD and parking assist.
The Audi Q5 special edition makes do with the powertrain of the standard SUV, which gets a 265PS/370Nm 2-litre turbo-petrol that sends power to Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system. As a result 0-100kmph takes just 6.1 seconds, while it can do speeds of up to 240kmph.
The suspension is adaptable, thanks to damping control. So using the various driving modes available, you can alter the ride comfort and even the responsiveness of the engine to cater to your need and situation.

Given that Audi has launched this new edition for this festive season and considering that it is available only for a limited time, we reckon Audi will pull it out the shelves pretty swiftly. So if you’re planning to book one, we’d suggest you be prompt with your decision. If you want to check out alternatives before doing that, you can take a look at the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Lexus NX and the Volvo XC60.
