The carmaker has also silently deleted some safety features from the Brezza’s CNG variants

  • Brezza manual loses out on mild-hybrid tech with start-stop.
  • Fuel efficiency has dropped from 20.15kmpl to 17.38kmpl.
  • Automatic variants continue to be offered with mild-hybrid assistance.
  • Electronic stability control and hill start assist stripped from Brezza’s CNG variants.

Maruti Suzuki has silently deleted the mild-hybrid tech in the Brezza’s petrol-manual powertrain. The carmaker still offers mild-hybrid with the automatic variants of the popular subcompact SUV. As a result, the claimed fuel efficiency of the manual variants of the Brezza has taken a hit.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza comes with the carmaker’s 1.5-litre petrol engine making 103PS and 137Nm. Its mild-hybrid tech basically has a small electric motor that assists the engine when you’re putting your foot down, giving you torque assist. Not only that, it also supports idle start-stop, thanks to the integrated starter, improving fuel efficiency in stop-go traffic.

Without this tech, the Brezza manual’s fuel efficiency has gone down from 20.15kmpl to 17.38kmpl, a hit of around 2.7kmpl. On the other hand, the automatic variant’s claimed fuel efficiency remains unchanged at 19.8kmpl. For our impressions on the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, check out our in-depth first drive review

The changes are not limited to the powertrain alone. Maruti has also deleted electronic stability control and hill hold assist in the CNG variants. They are still offered on the petrol-only models. Also, seat belt reminders have been added to the rear seats, but they don’t get a weight sensor. So regardless of the rear seats being occupied or not, the seatbelt always needs to be buckled.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is priced from Rs 8.29 lakh to Rs 13.98 lakh (ex-showroom). It continues to rival the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, and Nissan Magnite.
